#Wild Camera's
5 messages in this thread
I have a camera which is almost over the camera target. I want both the camera
and the camera target to move at the same pace (to the left). Currently, the
camera target moves just fine from point A to point B. However, the camera goes
carzy! It swings behind the camera target, back in front, behind, and then
finally ends up in the right place on the last frame. How do I get the camera
to stop moving so wildly? Down to the wire here…I've had this problem before,
but have always been able to tweak it enough to get it to look
decent…However, with this animation it looks tacky…Any help would be
appreciated…

Michael:
It's a side effect of the quaternion mathematics used in 3DS.
I believe the solution is to link the camera to a dummy object off to the side
a bit, and move the object. Or, you can rotate everything 90 degrees or so, so
the camera doesn't move straight down.
Evan (chances are, I don't have all this right, but you said you were
down to the wire.)
Thanks Evan! I ended up faking the camera pan like I usually do…Moving the
entire world except the camera…I'll give the dummy link a shot this weekend
to see if that would have affected the results! Thanks again for the prompt
solution!

Hi Michael,
Maybe it's too simplistic, but have you tried playing around with the
continuity, e.g. setting it to 0?
Just a tought.

I like to link the camera and target to a dummy and rotate/move the dummy which
seems to avoid the problem you described or set the global continuity to 0 in
for both camera and target.
