I have the upgrade form from NEC – the exchange fee for features like
Multi-session, 256K cache, and SCSI-2 is $229 for the 84 or $249 for the 74. I
personally don't plan to upgrade.

Boy, I can see why you don't plan to upgrade. That is half of the price I paid
for the original drive. I am with you I will put my $249 to much better use.
So much for NEC bragging about their socketed firmware for easy upgrades.
