Can anyone tell me about Smart and Friendly CD-ROM drives? They've started
popping up at Toronto stores, and I've never heard of them. Advertisements
claim they're extremely fast and multi-session photo-CD compatible. Any advice
would be appreciated.

There has been some conversation about this company here in the past. Can you
find out which drive they currently say they base their product on? That would
be key to determining the reliability of their claims.

The Smart and Friendly drive I see advertised here in Toronto is the HS 2200.
It's 200 MS access time, 330k transfer rate. Does this one ring a bell?

HS2200 is their model number. I'm wondering who is the drive manufacturer. In
the past, I think they have used Sony and maybe somebody else. The 200ms speed
sounds like the new Toshiba.

Rich, Seems you're right. Another member of the forum tells me the Smart and
Friendly drive in question is a Toshiba. You might have already seen the
message in this thread. Thanks for your help.

It's a Toshiba 3401. Several mailorder sources are advertising it for about
$50 more than the Tosh, but bundled with a 1-2-3 CDROM. Why anyone would want
1-2-3 on CDROM I don't know, but there you are.

Thanks for the info. I certainly don't want 1-2-3 on CD-ROM (or anything else,
for that matter). However, these drives are available here in Toronto and not
many other Photo CD multi-session compatible drives are. I might take a look.
