#Snapshot inoperative

When you do your snapshot of the window, first double click on the parent
window and/or drive so that the one you wish to snapshot is selected.

Thanks for responding, but perhaps I did not make myself clear.
Here is an example of what is happening:
I double click on my disk icon Work:
This causes the window for that disk to open. I can position and resize
that window, display by name or icon, etc. With that window selected, I
can select snapshot- window or snapshot- all, and the new position and
configuration is saved to disk.
Now I double-click on the drawer named Autopilot. This opens another
window. I move this window where I want it, and display by name or icon.
With this window (Autopilot) selected, I select snapshot- window. No
response, nothing is written to disk. Snapshot- all has no effect
either.
Snapshot will not work on any drawer within the Work: partition, only the
window that opens when I double click on Work:. No other icons are
selected, no other windows are active. Snapshot used to work just fine
until a few days ago. I have reformatted my entire hard drive and
reinstalled the system software from the original disks. Right after the
installation, snapshot works like it should. I can add new drawers and
set them up as I choose, then snapshot to save the info. As soon as I
install ANY software – from the original, unmodified disks- snapshot no
longer works on ANY drawer within the Work: partition.
Snapshot is working just fine in my Sys: partition. I can open the Sys:
disk and open the Devs drawer and reposition it, display by name or icon,
and snapshot it and it works just fine. Then I go to any drawer within
the Work: partition and try the same thing- no effect. I know nothing is
happening, because my drive light does not even flicker.
This is very annoying, because all my windows open on top of each other
and I have to reposition them every time I use the computer.
If anyone can help, please tell me what I can do.
Right now I am about to use NEWZap to try to manually change the
location of the window when it opens.

That is very odd indeed!
Before you try and NewZap your files, try the command found on the
installation disks of your WB2.1 set. It is called IconPos and it is used
to write the positions of certain icon.info files when the installer is
setting up the Workbench.

By typing the command iconpos and the name of the file in question you
will be given the type of icon and its position.
SYS:> iconpos disk
disk type=DISK 57 61
If you include position info Xnn Ynn – where nn equals the x position in
pixels for Xnn and y position in pixels for Ynn, IconPos will rewrite the
position info into the .info file of the icon. I have found that it is
necessary sometimes to issue the command and argument string twice to get
it to work correctly. The first time it sets the icon to 0 0 then moves it
to the new position.
I'd also check and see if the protection bits somehow have been set to
write OFF on the files in WORK: It does sound like the WORK: partition has
been write protected.

Doesn't matter if things are write protected. The WB ignores (somehow)
that.

I forgot that, I do remember trying to write protect a .info file and it
kept being written to no matter what I did to stop it. I found that a
certain checkbook program keeps updating the .info file of the datafile
and its position keeps being changed after each save of new info.

Everyone,
Here's a little update to my snapshot problem:
Snapshot WILL work if the parent window is display by icon. If the
parent window is display by name, date, or size, snapshot will not work.
This is rather confusing, because I am sure that snapshot was working
perfectly before.

This is just a thought, does your autopilot drawer have an info file
associated with it, or do you use the show-all-files option to display the
drawer? If you have no .info file present on disk I dont think you will be
able to snapshot the window.

No ideas. Just want to say that I have a drawer on a Syquest cart like
that. It has about 300 files in it. The cart happens to be the first one
in use after I got the Syquest 88. Other drawers on that cart work fine.
Dunno.
