George, January 14th at 1:14 pm = SUNRISE. Re: The wooden masks with slits… The North Slope Inupiat people made their "sunglasses" primarily from baleen or skins (as there are no trees here), with several narrow slits cut for each eye, which acted as fixed apertures. They've been colder in Prudhoe this year than in Barrow. That's okay by me… however, the coldest days are yet to come. Hope to hear from you when you get to Barrow in March.
