Nick, On an accelerator, check around. The Progressive Peripherals Zeus board ('040, 4M ram, SCSI-2) is (dealer cost) $499 now days. -sja

Dont know why your quoting Dealer cost to people, but for your info from Neither of the Distributors that cary the PP&S boards have a card in that configuration you quoted at that price. Forrest

Forrest, Just look at the lastest ads in the mags. Creative Computing is selling it retail for $499.

Steve, You've been listening to Clinton too much lately….and believing what he says…<grin>. Remember Ms. Flowers also said that Clinton had a good mouth. On the fifth ad page for Creative Computing in the March'93 Issue of Amiga World, the price listed for the Progressive Peripherals' Zeus accelerator '040 running at 28Mhz with a SCSI-2 HD controller w/0 memory is $1529.00. That is item #4074 in the Creative Computers catalog. IMHO, I think it would be appropriate for you to inform Nick Murray 70003,1112 of your incorrect price, since you may have scared off a potential buyer. Patrick White "The Amiga ……more should know"

Patrick, I would, but I'm sitting here with such a board that I picked up at my dealer for $586 including tax.

Great BUY! Good communications sometimes go astray. ICBW, (I could be wrong), but I thought Nick was selling the board with controller with 4MB 32bit RAM. From March to April AW, there was a big price reduction, (makes my mouth water). Now the Zeus '040 accelerator running at 28Mhz with a SCSI-2 DMA controller runs $899. What a deal. A $700 Reduction in one month. My comment was totally intended so that it didn't scare away buyers from Nick. Glad you have a good sense of humor, referring to Clinton. <grin> Patrick White "The Amiga ……more should know"

<sigh> … Check again, Patrick. WITH scsi-2, in lots of 1, dealer cost is $499. Cost is lower if purchased in quantity. Some dealers are selling it for $499 — mine's selling it for 10% above that. PP&S's phone number is 303-825-4144.

Patrick, I wasn't selling, I was buying! I'm gonna check into all this and I'll leave a message and let everyone know. Steve, if you are listening, where did you get your board? Creative? Thanks, Nick Murray

Also, here's a recent message from AmigaArts that also backs up my assertion… #: 27272 S6/DeskTop Video 03-Mar-93 15:16:58 Sb: #27240-AMIGA Video Digitizin' Fm: Peter Greci 76104,2110 To: Erik Flom 71204,407 STeve wrote to them and also spoke to folks at CBM and offered to let em use the Picture for a PRICe or Desist using it and CBM agreed to stop using his image. I may be getting a 040 VERY soon. Creative Computers is Advertising PP&S 25 mhz 040's for the A3000 for a measly $499 and 35 mhz Mercury boards for $899……..Boy Howdy thats affordable enuff even for me.

Patrick and Steve, This Creative Computers outfit is rather confused. The fine print price list and the large colorful price list for the PPS accelerators are drastically different. For example the straight PPS '040 at 28 MHz : $1129 vs $649. I can't believe that $649 price. I paid $1700 for mine a year ago. John
#91218From: Steve AhlstromMar 6, 1993 1:31 PM
John, I'm sorry, but you're way behind the times. PP&S are dumping their boards. Give 'em a call. -sja
#91271From: Patrick WhiteMar 6, 1993 7:12 PM
John, The large print is just the accelerator, $649. The small print is with a DMA SCSI-2 controller. It bothers me too when prices come down. But then how long can one wait? I'll bet your enjoying it immensely. BTW, can you give me some speed ratings, i.e. MIPS, Dhyrstones, etc. Thanks. Patrick White "The Amiga ……more should know"

Patrick: I bought a PP&S 25mhz 040 board for my 3000 a while ago, and paid $1400.00 for it. Am I bothered that the prices have gone down? Nope, not at all, I've had the use of this card for at least a year now, and I expect prices of technology to go down. It's the price I pay to have the newest stuff. // -Mike Schiller \X/ AMIGA! Three years ago I purchased a GVP 3001 which was an '030 acc. with 4 MB 32 bit RAM and an IDE controller for about $1300. Now, like you said with the '040 quite a drop. You can only wait so long though. For instance, the Toaster was selling for $1500 at one time, two or three years ago. I thought I'd wait and 'walla the price goes up to around $2400. (I realize that you can get it cheaper now but not at $1500.) I learned my lesson in the case of the Toaster. If it's something I really need/want then I'll buy now. If not then wait a year or two. But then you'll be behind the technology… Quay Sa-rah…… It only hurts when it's time to sell… Patrick White "The Amiga ……more should know"

If you look in the April issue of AW.. On page 70 in the lower left hand corner, you will see the PP&S '040 25MHz accelerator for the A3000 selling for $499. There- enough said. -Jonathan

uh, patrick, BEFORE you run your mouth at Steve, why don't you get the LATEST(april) AmigaWorld, or even call PP & S. you'll see that you are full of it, and that PP &S has had a DRAMATIC price reduction. Tony
#91270From: Patrick WhiteMar 6, 1993 7:12 PM
Tony, I think Steve can take care of his own messages. Thank you! BEFORE you stick your nose in something that you seemingly know nothing about. Look at the 5th page of the Creative Computing in the MARCH ISSUE of AmigaWorld. This is a fact! The board Nick Murray was referring to was a Progressive Peripherals Zeus '040 (didn't say 28MMhz or 33MMhz) with SCSI-2 DMA HD CONTROLLER expandable to 64MB of ram for $1529.00 and $1929.00 respectively. The accellerator without the SCSI-2 and w/o 4MB of 32bit RAM may surely be less. In the April Issue of AW, the 28Mhz and 33Mhz boards with SCSI-2 DMA are $899.00 and $1149.00 respectively. You are right that there was a price reduction but what Nick was selling was the accelerator and HD controller with 4MB of 32 bit RAM. Therefore the price MAY be higher. When someone is trying to sell something the cost is between the seller and the purchaser, which is my main point.<grin> Who knows you too may believe everything that Clinton is telling us. <grin> Patrick White "The Amiga ……more should know"

Patrick, once again. since i BUY from distributors and I KNOW the prices, PP&S dropped the prices on ****ALL**** of their products. If a certain mail-order firm doesn't, either they have money invested in products the purchased thru the dist. channel at the higher prices, or they're thieves. If you want, I can post my pricing(price *I* pay) on the WHOLE DANG PP&S line, and you'll see that it's true. And second, Steve is a friend and unles he tells me to stay out, I'm DAMN well gonna butt in. after all, it's not a private message, now is it? If you posted it here, then you weren't worried about the fact that other people would comment on it. 'Nuff said. Tony ps, As far as i'm concerned, Clinton could get assassinated tomorrow, and I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep, the lying, cheating, kaniving(sp?), 2-faced lunatic. ps, pricing on the Zeus 28mHz is 499 0K, $749 w/ 4MB (that's dealer price on the Zeus 28mHz) Tony

Forrest: I have seen the '040 board selling for less than $500 in some of the latest mags. You might want to check again yourself… -Jonathan

that is true but that is with no memory… Forrest

So! $499 for an '040 board is an excellent deal and if people would look at the latest prices, there wouldn't have been an argument about prices in the first place… -Jonathan

Wow! That's an amazing price for the '40!! I'll look into it! Thanks. Nick Murray
