I have Final Copy II release 1 running on a A3000, WB2.1 with a DeskJet
500 Printer, my father has a A4000, WB3.0 with a DeskJet 550C printer.
Both these setups exhibit the same problem. When printing multiple page
documents it will sometimes print a blank page after the first page, this
seems to act at random times. I have made sure that there isn't any extra
pages inserted or extra space to make it carry over, the print area is
set-up as per the manual, 0.625 top and 0.625 for the bottom and the edit
areas being 1.0 all the way around and the paper size is set to US letter.
Any ideas, hints or ???

Do you have Paper Feed set to Single Sheet (see page 10-4 and 10-5 of
Final Copy II manual)? Which printer driver(s) are you using? SoftWood
recommends (very highly) the SuperDJC and SuperDJ2 drivers from Creative
Focus for printing to any of the DeskJet printers. I can get you their
number if you need it.
We have a 500C at SoftWood and have always been able to print
beautifully to it. A friend of mine has the 550C and just showed me some
cool print-outs yesterday with no complaints.
Also, choose "Statistics" from the "Extra" menu (or use RightAmiga Y)
and note how many pages it has listed there? Is the number what you
expected? If not, you'll need to do some investigating to find out how
that extra page was thrown in.
Until you check these things out for me, I can't help you very well.
Reply with some answers and we'll see what went wrong, OK?

I am using the C= HP_DeskJet printer driver for mine and the HP_500C for
the A4000. The print setup is set for single sheet.
The statistics show the proper number of pages.
As far as investigating it futher, I have tried lots of things BEFORE I
reported to you, it would seem to be a 'glitch' on your end. Like I said
before it happens randomly, sometimes it will print a blank pages after
the first andd other times everything is just fine. It almost looks like
the program printing to the very edge of the deskjet limits and sometimes
it is enough to push it past the first page.
I am out of ideas and things to try, that is why I figured I would ask you
guys.

Scott,
One feature of the Super_DJC driver from Creative Focus that Ric has
recommended to you is that you can set it to suppress linefeeds. This
feature may be the answer to your problem because I have it, too. I've
just been too lazy to dig out the documentation for it and look but will
get around to it eventually.

I have found that it will seem to print the blank extra second page only
the FIRSt time you print a particular document, whether it be one you just
created or one just loaded, any prints after that seem to print just fine.
Can anyone else confirm this?
Is that weird or what??

… cause I was kinda hoping for an answer/bug fix for this, although I
could consider it a feature that it makes sure the second page makes a
'cleaning pass' through the printer before I use it!

Hmm. I'd like you to think about your original question. The lack of
the following information made me think that you were passing along info,
not seeking an answer:
1. What Amiga do you have?
2. Which versions of Kickstart and Workbench do you have? Which
chipset (ie. original, ECS or AGA)?
3. How much memory is present in the Amiga (separate Chip and Fast)?
4. What program were you talking about (this is a biggie)?
5. What kind of documents were the "particular" documents?
6. Did they use text, IFF graphics, or structured drawings? Was it a
combination of these?
7. If there was text, how many fonts were involved?
8. If there was an IFF graphic, what kind of picture was it (palette,
resolution, etc.)?
9. If there were structured drawings, which ones and how many?
10. What printer are you using?
11. Which printer driver do you have selected in Workbench
preferences?
12. Do you have a hard-drive or floppies only?
13. Were you booting with a copy of our floppies?
14. Are there any public domain, freeware, or shareware programs
running in the background? (ie. mouse accelerater, screen blanker, etc.)
15. In the program, what printer settings were you using?
I'm sure I'll need more info to help you, but the answers to the above
will definitely put me on the right track.

My original message gave you most of that info, it would seem that you
guys might want to look into it a little more, as for the configurations,
both machines that I know do this are very different and that is why I
don't believe it is in the configuration. I also know I am not the only
person to have this trouble, and why would I just leave you a message
about a bug to pass info along?
as far as the 15 questions, never mind…. if I had that kind of time I
would fix the bug myself.

The only time my documents seem to double, print a blank sheet after a
printed sheet, is when I run the text to the bottom of the document, using
standard page set-up measurements. I have a friend with almost the same
set-up, different printer but still postscript, and it does the same. It
does not matter if the document is one page or multiple pages, it will do
this if the text is to close to the bottom print border. If you leave
about four lines of space before the print border, it will not do
this.Well……

I have FC2 R1, an A3000 w/WB V2.1 and a deskjet 500.
I have the same problem with a blank sheet of paper ejected between pages
one and two – this is very annoying!
I have the Creative Focus driver for the 500. It works exactly the same as
the stock CBM driver.
I would like to see this problem fixed as well.
What information can I provide that will help you fix this problem?

Try telling Printer Preferences that you have fanfold, rather than single.
It worked for me….

I tried setting the preferences setting to fanfold but that did not help
any.

Well, I have to admit I don't feel myself an expert, and I still get blank
sheets sometimes, but that guess above just about shot my wad….

Did you verify that your print area settings are as recommended in the
small chart on page 4-3 of the manual?
At work we have a DeskJet 500, 500c and the 550c is on the way. As
long as our print areas are defined properly in the Page Setup requester,
we have no problems.
We also use the Creative Focus driver. It is an excellent driver and
far better than Commodore's own drivers.
Let me know if the print area settings were at fault.

I have the bottom print area set to .50 as per my deskjet 500 manual.
having this value larger than the one in the manual should have no effect,
correct?

Jay,
The only effect of raising the bottom print area would be to lower the
amount of vertical space you have on a page; however, I'm sure you're
aware of that. Other than that, you are correct that there should be no
other side-effects.

I am experiencing the same phenomenon with my A2000, FCII and DJ500C,
running with the C= 2.1 driver.

I have your setup except for the driver. My driver is Super_DJC from
Creative Focus. It has the feature of suppressing linefeeds. If you find
it in the docs (after you buy it, of course, it is commercial software!),
let us know. I'm not sure that I can lay my hands on mine just
immediately. At this time of night, I'm getting incoherent.
