Is anyone aware of a reasonably priced (under $150) board or adapter that is
capable of converting Amiga-2000 RGB output to CLEAN color- composite or Y/C
(SVHS/HI8) signal.
I already have an A520 RGB->composite adapter, but the output looks like mud,
even when recorded on Hi-8.
I don't need anything fancy like 24-million colors, I just need to transfer my
regular 'ol 320×400 HAM animations to video.
How about schematics for such a critter that someone may have built ?

I think what you are looking for is called VIP it is basically what you
mentioned (converts RGB to composite and if I'm not mistaken, S-VHS). I just
tried digging around in my AmigaWorld, but couldn't find any listings for one,
however, I pretty sure I saw someone advertising one for sale (along with a
bunch of other things) this past week on the AMIGAUSER forum classified
section. I don't recall what the subject header was. The price on the VIP
wasn't much more than $150.00 when it was new, so you may be able to pick it up
for cheap if you can find it. It's not a GENLOCK, however. Hope this can point
you in some direction…

Ron I have a VIP Encoder that has Composite as well as S-Video out
it cost me $110 or so, pretty Good Results as long as you use NTSC Legal
Colors.

I happen to use an A520 with my good ol' HAM animations and they look
beautiful on Hi8. I don't know if you have taken account on this, but I
will for clarity. Do you use colors wisely? I mean colors without 100%
saturation, neighboring colors which are too "controversial"… Do you use
interlace all the time?
My experience is a good one with the A520. Anyway another clean video
gadget which I use a lot is the MiniGen. Little but dynamite!
I've heard (not my experience) that the G-Lock is a nice video tool too!
The good thing is that it has S-Video in and out. It costs more than $150
though.
