#CD ROM Recomendation

Mike,
I am very happy with the card. Occasionally, horrendous screeches come out
upon Windows start. I have had the card replaced so it must be the Gateway or
maybe the ATI video. This is nothing more than an annoyance.
An Egghead retail store opened up here in Albany, NY in January and they
had the SBPro basic for $129.00 – you cannot find that price in mail order – so
I bought one.
I use COM1 and 2 – no conflicts.
I wanted a NEC 74, but NO ONE has them in stock, so I bought a Mitsumi
LU0005s. I works very well.
Good Luck!

Patrick,
<<horrendous screeches>> …sheesh!
Someone else mentioned that phenomenon with the SBPro card. I've pretty much
decided against the SBPro in any flavor. After following several threads on
the ZEOS forum, I see clearly that the card does *not* get along with the ZEOS
486 DX2/66 VL-BUS motherboard (the heart and soul of my pc).
I still think that I want a NEC 74 or maybe the Texel drive. I'm fighting off
the temptation to drive up to the CompUSA and buying NEC Gallery, which
includes the NEC74 drive, some speakers, and a few titles.
The feedback I get from experiences like yours are helping me make a less
impulsive decision. Thanks for your help!
Mike
