#CD-I on Toshiba 3401??

Is it possible to run CD-I disks on a PC CDROM drive? When I got my CDROM
drive (Toshiba 3401) it states in operation manual that the drive is CD-I
compatible but I haven't heard how this can be done.
Anyone with any ideas???

Toshiba must have meant that the 3401 is CDROM-XA or PHOTOCD compatible ? The
data formats for CDROM-XA and PHOTOCD are derived from
CD-I so that causes some confusion. A CD-I player however is really a computer
that connects to a TV, with CD-I discs containing software for this "CD-I
computer", so it's not very likely that the Toshiba drive is CD-I compatible.
Apart from the FAQ files in LIB1 of this forum, there is
a good summary explaining the CD formats called DSCFMT.TXT in Lib 1 of
the Multimedia Forum which explains away some of this confusion.

Thanks Mark for the information on the Toshiba 3401 and CD-I.
I was reviewing my CDROM manual to make sure I understood what Toshiba was
trying to say but I am still at a loss. In the specifications section of the
instruction manual Toshiba states:
Applicable Disc: Red Book, Yellow Book, CD-ROM XA
Photo-CD, CD-Bridge, and CD-I Ready
I understand the referenced documents but confused as to their "CD-I Ready"
statement. I suppose this is not the first error in ever stated in
manufacturers specifications…

A "CD-I Ready" disc can be played on a standard music CD player, but
contains extra information to be played on a CD-I player (eg. to show you the
words or artist info on the TV screen in an interactive way). With your Toshiba
drive you will just be able to listen to the normal music part of a CD-I Ready
disc when you use the Toshiba drive as a
CD audio player.
