Any opinions pro or con on the Toshiba XM-3401B drive? It is being offered to
me as part of a package. Thanks.

I recently installed a Toshiba XM-3401B for a client, and I am highly
impressed. The 3401 is MUCH faster than anything I have used before, and I
had no difficulty getting it working with an UltraStor 24F SCSI host
adapter, using UltraStor's SCSI CD-ROM driver software. The drive hasn't
been in service very long, but from what I've seen so far, I don't know how
you could do better. BTW, that host adapter was already driving the hard
disk in the system, so the CD-ROM became the second device in the SCSI
chain. That seems to work just fine.
What package is being offered with the 3401? I am thinking of replacing my
older CD-ROM with a 3401 and would like to get a deal on some disks along
with the drive.

Thanks for the info. My OEM guy isn't offering any disks. I don't know if any
packages are available here in Germany; of course, anything is possible — it
just costs money.
I too just installed the Toshiba 3401. I was used to my slower Sony drive —
the Toshiba is just great. Recommend it highly!

Is the Toshiba XM-3401B a double speed drive similar to the NEC CDR74-1 ? Do
you have to insert the CD in a cartridge before putting it in the drive?
