Here's a really dumb question from a 6 month Amiga user:
Can you use IBM type memory SIMMS in Amiga?? I have tons of them around.

You might get more responses to your question about memory in AmigaUser
forum, in the Hardware section.
I know that there are certain kinds of SIMMS used in just about all
computers, but I don't know enough to answer your question. Sorry. But
there are several people who participate in the Hardware section who will
be able to give you an answer.

Not 100% sure But you SHOULD be able to use IBM/Clone 1meg*9 or 4 meg
SIMMS…. I did t back when I had my Atari STe, I don't think theirs much
difference to the Comuter between the MAC Sims and the IBM/Clone Simms
and either Should work. But Please ask around more since I'm DEFINITELY
NOT an authority on the subject and don't want to be resposible for your
FRYING yer machine
Thanks for the responses on my memory question. Has anyone out there used IBM
and Amiga memory interchangeably to know for sure if it will work??

I have mixed 1×9 and 1×8 SIMMS many times…

The A3000 takes ZIPS (Not compat w/SIMS). I beleive the A4000 takes SIMS,
along with most of the A2000 accel boards.

I work for Highland Grey Consulting and my boss transferred some memory
chips from his an old VGA card to his Amiga memory card and it worked
fine. It mostly depends on what the card is made to use.

Typically, yes, you can use IBM type SIMMS in Amigas that have memory
expansion devices that use SIMMS. The Amiga, like the MAC, will ignore
the parity chip though.

Thanks for the answers to my memory questions! Since I'm obviously asking my
questions in the right place, I'll ask a couple more:
My screen constantly locks up in TosterPaint (i.e. I can't scroll) after I've
loaded 2 or 3 different files, or if I've used virtually any other Toaster
feature. Is increased chip ram what I need here? And if so, is the MegAChip
2000 my best option for this??
My machine is an Amiga 2000, with a GVP 68030 combo board. I'm still fairly
lost on all the jargon associated with these boards, but here's what it says on
the invoice line that tells about the GVP board:
ACCEL A2000 50MHZ/4MB SCSI
What could I add to my machine that would give me a SUBSTANTIAL increase in
speed, and still be cost effective??

If you inadvertantly hit the help key when Toasterpaint is active the
scrolling feature is disabled. Next time it locks, try hitting the help
key. SIncethis is a "toggle" switch, it may free the screen up.
