#Question

Hello all 3ds'ers…
I have a question to ask the experienced 3ds'ers out there. The
question comes from a user more advanced than myself who unfortunately has not
seen the light of CIS…His problem is that of a robot arm… It moves
pivots..grips an item and then he wants to move the item with the robot arm…
So… he tried to link the item to the arm and this did not seem to work…
beacuse the link seemingly cannot be created ant any point in time in the
animation only at the begining ???? We solved the problem by doing the
animation in parts ie. the robot arm moving & griping object (part 1). The
robot arm moving with object (part 2). the robot arm releasing object and
moving back into initial position (part 3) and rendering them separately. Is
there a more elegant way of doing this with one animation sequence ????
Thanks in advance….

Roger,
Create a dummy object and link the robot arm to the dummy as a child and also
link the other item to the dummy as a child. Then you can move the robot arm to
the item, grip the item, then move the dummy object to the new position and
both the arm and item will move with it. Then the robot arm can let go of the
item and move away seperately. Voila! This will work.
