#Trident SVGA card

A friend of mine just purchased a Trident 8900C SVGA card and we have been trying to get it to work with his 2286 Bridgeboard but without much luck. We have tried the usual things like disabling both color & mono emulation modes from the Janus 2.1 software, disabling the monitor auto-detect, enabling/disabling IRQ9, etc. BTW, he has a CBM 1950 monitor through a A/B switchbox to switch to the VGA card. Anyway, I know there is a jumper on the 2286 BB that sets the BB to boot in Color or Mono default. Does that jumper have to be removed in order for a VGA card to work? John, check your VGA docs. Some SVGA cards use hardware interrupts that the BB requires for its own use. You may be able to change them or maybe not; a Stealth VRAM SVGA controller I bought for my BB was useless for that very reason (though it looks mighty nice on my PC). Bob

Unfortunately, the doc's for the Trident SVGA card doesn't include much technical information on the hardware interrupts. It only mentions the jumper for IRQ-9 enable/disable and we tried both of those settings. To get back to one of my questions, does the default display jumper (J14) of the 2286 need to be removed if you are installing a VGA card? // \X/ John – K7KB (Flying via AutoPilot)

John, Exactly how doesn't it work? I've had people tell me a VGA card doesn't work and it turns out they're not running PC Color or PC Mono, so they don't have keyboard access. Some CROSSINGS readers have used the Trident SVGA successfully, so there should be no real problem. Marion CROSSINGS Newsletter for the Bridgeboard, etc.

Well Marion we just don't get any display from the SVGA card at all. It's acting like it's not even there. We tried all of the different options we could think of, made sure the driver software was installed, etc. Any help you could give us to get this Trident card running would be appreciated. // \X/ John – K7KB (Flying via AutoPilot)

John, I have joined this thread a little late but I do have a Trident SVGA (1meg) running inside my 2000 with 386/25BB. I had the same symptoms as you with my first Trident i.e no output whatsoever, it turned out to be a duff Trident card which I returned, the new one worked perfectly at the first try. I got the impression that I was not the first person to get a dead on arrival Trident, that particular dealer now tests everyone before despatch. Well we did get the Trident card to work at one time, but then we did some changes somewhere and it hasn't worked since. Still could be a flakey card so if we don't get anywhere with it soon I'll recommend that he return it for a new one.
