#A2620 question

Hi, I recently installed the latest ROMs in my A2620 accelerator board in
my A2500. I also installed the 2.04 ROM chip in the machine. PRIOR to this
installation, if I held down the two mouse buttons when I booted the A2500,
I got a 'speed choice' menu, that allowed me to pick either the 68000 or
68020 side of the machine. NOW, after the installations noted above,
nothing happens when I hold down the mouse buttons on boot up. It just
boots straight into the 68020. Is this suppos to be the way it now works?
How can I get the machine into 68000 mode?? I just repleced the old
accelerator ROM chips with the new ones and then installed the new 2.04
ROM. Nothing else was touched or modified. Any help would be appreciated.

Al,
Just hold down ONE mouse button during bootup to access the processor
selection screen when running under 2.04 with the new accelerator ROMs.
Just hold down the right mouse button.

Actually, you should get a boot device selection menu if you hold
down both mouse buttons. If you want to get the 68000/68020 (the UNIX
option has been removed) simply hold down the RIGHT mouse button rather
than both buttons.

To get the boot device selection menu you have to hold down both buttons
much longer than you'd expect to for processor selection (it appears that
you have to hold them until the boot ROMs have checked all the boot
devices). Would have been nice if the upgrade documented the changes,
wouldn't it?
NOTE: one of the useful things you can do with the boot menu is use it to
allow some older games to come up correctly (ones that don't seem to like
sharing the computer with your hard drives or second floppy disk). Try
setting 68000 mode, then quickly hold both buttons until the device
selection menu comes up, pick advanced options and disable everything but
DF0, then continue the boot with the game disk installed in DF0. Works with
a couple of the games I have.

That's true…the CPU selection comes from the A2620/30 ROM as part
of it's autoconfig process. The boot device menu comes from the system ROM
as part of it's startup that occurs after autoconfig…but before software
bootup.

What ever happened to the monitor that use to be avail by pressing….
ummmm……I think it was SHIFT-M or something like that. I can't seem to
find itanymore. You use to have to get to the speed-selection menu and then
press that (or some other) key combination to bring it up. Is there
anymore? And, if so, how do you access it?? – al saveriano –

Get to the 68000 68020 menu (hold down RIGHT mouse button on
bootup) and then while continuing to hold the right mouse button down, hit
SHIFT-M.
BTW…the monitor still has the UNIX boot option, it's just not on
the 68000 62020(30) initial menu anymore.
