I have a TRANTOR T130 SCSI card in my PC. In the manual it says TRANTOR
software does not need interrupts. Is this true? I don't have any free
interrupts in the range the card supports anyway. Am I missing out on
performance as a result. The Texcel CD ROM seems to be ok. But being my first I
have nothing to compare it to.
Yes, it is true. The default for the T130 is to install without using
interrupts. Of course, you can use them if you want, but DOS isn't going to do
anything for you! Only on a multitasking operating system you may be able to
see some (marginal) performance increase with IRQs enabled.
I'm using the Trantor CDXT003 bundled with a NEC CDR-36, but I'm not sure that
it is configured properly. The NEC User's Guide for the CDR-36 indicates that
a 150kbytes/sec. data transfer rate (sustained) should be possible with this
drive, but I'm only getting around a 42kbytes/sec. data transfer rate
(sustained) in the Windows 3.1 environment. Can you advise if I can improve
this performance by changing these settings?
CDXT003 current settings:
Card I/O Address: 350h (SW1,2 = OFF)
BIOS ROM Address: Disabled (SW3,4,5 = OFF)
BIOS ROM Boot Disable: Enabled (SW6 = OFF)
Reserved Switches: SW7,8 = OFF
JP2, Zero Wait-State Operation: Disabled
JP3, IRQ Jumper Block: none
By the way, I am running the MA13B.SYS ASPI driver along with the NECCDR.SYS
device driver. And I'm using version 2.21 of MSCDEX. All of these were
provided with the drive/adapter bundle from NEC.
