#Texel Drives
11 messages in this thread
I recently got a recommendation for a Texel CD-ROM; its fast (200 ms),
dual speed, XA, and in-expensive. The problem is, I've never heard of it or
where the company is. Does anybody know a vendor that carries these drives? Are
they reliable?
I'm also looking for Future domain SCSI. Any ideas or recommendations
appreciated!

Ed,
I've been seeing quite a bit talk about the Texel over in the IBM OS2 Beta
Forum. Texel is on the OS2 2.x compatibillity list, so that explains part of
it.
What's the best price you've seen on this drive ? I'd consider one myself, but
I am concerned with drivers. I am running an AIR 486/66 VESA Local Bus Mother
Board with AIR VLB SCSI 2 controller and AIR VLB Video Adapter and I have not
seen drivers for the Texel on the AIR BBS.
Somehow, I doubt that Texel supplies drivers for AIR, although maybe they'll
hook into the AIR ASPI driver.
Mark,
I got my Texel DM-3024 for $375 but like I told Ed, the receipt is buried
somewhere and I can'r remember off hand where I got it.
Thanks Thomas

Ed: I have been using a TEXEL 3024 internal drive for awhile now. It has
worked very well. It is attached to the SCSI port of my ProAudio Spectrum16
audio board.
I bought mine mail order from a firm listed in Computer Shopper. There are
several dealers listed there and I have seen it in a few computer stores.

I also have a Pro Audio Spectrum 16 and I just ordered a Texel 3024 from the
Computer Shopper. I was wondering if you had any problems with connecting the
CD-ROM drive etc etc….
Thanks
Dennis
Dennis: Yes I had a problem with the CD ROM – I could not get audio CDs to
play. After trying everything else, I took the drive out and checked the
jumpers. They were not set to the "factory setting". Since I did not change
them, I am curious how they got changed. Anyways, I put them back to the
factory setting and now everything works fine. Good luck… Brian
Ed,
I have a Texel DM-3024 internal CD-ROM connected to an Adaptec 1542B SCSI
controller and I love it. It's a 265ms double speed drive w/300KB transfer
rate. Also XA so its probably the one your talking about. The DM-5024 is the
external.
As far as SCSI controllers go, I have an Adaptec 1542B so I can't tell you much
about the Future Domain. Sorry, but I can't remember where I got it from and
the receipt is buried somewhere here.
Thanks for the info, I'll get a Computer Shopper and see if I can't find a
Texel 3024 there.

Ed: I use the Texel 3024 with the FD-850. Works great, install was a snap. I
bought mine as part of a package that included a sound card (turtle beach). I
would suggest you pick up a copy of Computer Shopper, PC Mag, Windows Sources,
etc. and hit the back pages. A little "dialing for dollars" should do the
trick. I think a good price would be $375-$400. If you get a good price from
a mail order house use your credit card and MAKE SURE IT'S IN STOCK. Many
horror stories around about good deals that ship 2 months later. 😉 sc
