JRCOMM Could someone tell me why when I log on to Compuserve I get "garbage" after the initial screen? When I open the SERIAL requester and close it again, I get readable text again. I don't have to change anything for this to happen. Thanks, Jeff Hyett.

Jeff, I don't know if JRComm strips the 8th bit, but until you get to the Password entry logging on using a term that doesn't strip that bit you'll see 'garbage'. If you were to log on at 7N1, you'll see normal text, but will have trouble downloading, since you need 8N1 set to do it. Since you know what to expect when logging on you'll know what to type after each line of 'garbage' and eventually will see the Password: prompt in the clear. When I use ProComm Plus at work on their peecee, the auto-logon script I use is written to 'see' the garbage text, and replies in garbage to it. I get to password: and type that in manually, after that everything is normal. Chris

You need to select TTY emulation, under the terminal selection. // Lee Olsen / Orlando, FL – on AutoPilot \X/
