#Compositing Hell!?!
6 messages in this thread
Hello Yost Group…. and everyone else.. My question is about
compositing, I have some blue screen footage that I am trying to
composite over a new background, Unfourtunately, even after I use
QFX's smart fill to make the blue one solid color, the composite
looked like crapola. I tried bluring the edges and every other option
the video post compositor has but still no luck. Any suggestions on
how to do it or any Software that can do it? I sure wish someone
would come out with an awsome compositor for the PC… Thank you
Martin Foster is one of our resident compositing experts. Perhaps he's got the
time to give you some tips.

We are just finishing an IPAS program called CHROMA.IXP to solve this
problem of blue screen compositing. Does exactly what you describe,
writes out an eight-bit alpha file for use as an alpha mask in 3DS.
Greg, Will that IPAS do chroma key green as well?
Regards Steve
It will do chroma keying with any color as you specify the color and/or luma
intensity. You can also define deviation in order to accommodate variations.
Video post can use any key colour (such as blue 0,0,255) although the
colour allows for now variation, but for best results you'd need a
grayscale mask with anti-aliased edges. I often use animator pro for
this. Make the background the key colour, clip the whole animation
over time, make pure white the current colour, go into anim cel, do a
one colour operation using white and paste every frame. Then I'd go
through the whole animation and either soften or unzag the edges. You
can use the macro recorder to automate most of the repetitive
operations. This resulting flic would then be your alpha channel and
used as a rgb mask in video post. If you don't have animator pro
maybe hiresQFX 2.0 has a way of automating this. Feel free to ask
more specific questions.
