Might that improved version of the A1200 be the one that is rumored to
have the CD32 stuff in it to make it easier to fit a CD to it???

Didn't pick the details on the "improvement by summer", but I gathered it
involved a chip change. What chip? I don't know. From a recent posting by
Steve Ahlstrom, sounds as if somebody had a tape recorder going at that
meeting.
Seems to me that if Commodore were planning a PROFOUND upgrade to the 1200,
they would keep that information totally secret. As with other products at
other times, to-soon disclosure can wreck the market for the current product.

There was a discussion about the upgraded A1200 in the Jim Drew CO' file
here on CIS. He said that it is a A1200 with an 030 CPU instead of the
020. No other changes.

Sorry, i missed the beginnng of this – there IS going to be ANOTHER
1200 ? – typical just after i bought one 🙁
The 1200 has been out for a while–my guess is that Commodore can't
find a 68020s cheap enough. 🙂
Still… Would happen go and fork out hard earned cash and they bring a
new one out… such is the world of fast moving (Surely not in C= case?)

According to Alwin Stumpf (Managing Director of Commodore germany) there has
been a policy change regarding new products.
No longer will information be "leaked" or "pre-released" as until now.
Instead Commo say they will only announce new products within 2 to 3 weeks of
actually being able to deliver them. This will on the one hand stop the market
from drying up while customers wait for promised releases.
The disadvantge is that dealers may not get any chnace to build stock levels
down pending new releases.
Apparently there will be "4 major new releases" from Commo in Germany this
year.
The first will be announced at the Cebit Show in Hannover (middle March).
I would expect that to be the CDROM-Drive ( either with or without MPEG
capability ) for the Amiga 1200. I don't know whether the 4000 Tower should be
counted as a new release !

I 100% agree that a company as in trouble as C= should never leak
information about new and upcoming products. Look at what happened to the
A600 when news of the A1200 started to leak out. However, I myself am
refraining from buying a CD32 right now because I smell something new
coming down the pipe. Wether it's a whole new computer, the CD-ROM or an
improved CD32 it doesn't matter. I just don't want to get stuck with
something I don't need. It happened when I bought this A1200. Two months
later the A4000 030 surfaced, the A1200 dropped in price and the CD32 was
anounced. I just don't want to get left behind again.
What I see for myself now is either waiting for the CD32 drive for my
A1200, or buying a CD32 and the Micobotics (Panavision) expansion,
providing for all the computer peripherals, and parnetting the CD32 and
A1200 together.
In the present though, that A1200 030 just mentioned sure does intrest
me, however, only if it is a variant with an MMU and has FPU socket.
