I just bought Imagine 2.9 for PC and can't get it to work on my setup. Every time I run it I get : EMM386: Unrecoverable priviledged operation error 05 – Press ENTER to reboot. What is wrong? Jacek Artymiak (Bitmap Studios Ltd)

Imagine uses its own extender code to access EMS and XMS. This wont work with EMM386. You either have to reconfigure so you dont use EMM386, or turn it off with the 'EMM386 OFF' command (nothing must be using high memory for this to work). I just have a DOS-6 boot configuration that leaves out EMM386. Phil Camp, UK.

Happy, happy, joy, joy! I just solved this mistery! Its rather emarasing… The cause of trouble was the memory manager as suggested by Impulse and may others (thanks boys!). I could not proceed beyond the opening screen because the proper mouse driver had not been installed beforehand. I was confused because the mouse worked with MS software and 3D Studio. I have modyfied my Config and Autoexec files and everything is just fine. Many thanks to all who replied to my posting. Jacek Artymiak (Bitmap Studios Ltd)

We too finally figured out that you needed to remove the EMM386 driver from the system, but we also though there was a bit of lunacy on Impulse's part for no mention of it in the docs or addendum. If you use MS-Dos 6.2, you can set up a menuing system in your config.sys to handle multiple configurations. There is a section in the skimpy manual that is provided with the dos on how to do it. JL

Thanks John, I did just that but for some reason I won't get beyond the opening screen. Jacek Artymiak (Bitmap Studios Ltd)
