#Flashing Quantum
2 messages in this thread
Hello,
I've got an A2000+A2630+ GVP Impact II controller (ROM V3.7 ) with a
Quantum LP105 as unit 0 on the bus.
When I power-up, quite often the Quantum flashes the LED (approx every 1/2
second ) and the system boots up presumably from ROM and mounts the other
devices on the bus. When I run FaaaaastPrep I see the Quantum as device 0
but it has no size.
Furthermore, I can't get the controller to boot from any other device on
the bus when this happens.
If I power-on/ off and/or leave the system for a day or two then it will
boot up perfectly.
How can I tell if it is the controller having problems or the disk itself
(they are both 4 years old ).
All ideas gratefully received.

There are several possibilities here.
What version of AmigaDOS are you using? If you want to use 2.04 or later,
I think you need to ensure that you have the latest ROM in your A2630.
I don't know if it will give you the symptoms you're seeing but you could
start by upgrading your GVP controller ROM. I have v4.5 in mine and I
think it's the latest.
I would also recommend that you contact Quantum (anyone have their
number?) and ensure that you have the latest firm/software for the drive.
Additionally, have these items worked properly together in the same system
before?
Did you purchase the controller and drive together as a new unit (or were
they purchased separately)? It is possible that one or more jumpers is
incorrectly place on the Quantum or even the controller…but not very
likely if you purchased them together as a new unit…consult your user
documentation if you have it.
Have you prep'd and/or formatted the Quantum? It is possible that the
configuration given to your system for the Quantum was incorrect when it
was prep'd.
Are you getting a message from AmigaDOS about an inability to validate the
drive?
To localize the problem to the controller or the drive itself, try the
drive on another (known functional) controller, or try the controller with
another (known functional) drive.
