DOS Shell Bug???
7 messages in this thread
Jonas, or anyone who can help,
I have MetaWare 3.04 and Pharlap 4.1. I am pretty much finished with my pxp
routines, except for one real problem. I compile, link, load 3DS, load the pxp
file and run it, everything works great, except that when I shell out
afterwards, my system just locks up! I have tried several of the other pxp
files and no such problem. I even compiled and linked box.pxp from the ipas2
kit, it will also lock up the system! Is it the version of MetaWare or
Pharlap??? (Even if I cancel the pxp before anything is done, the dos shell
locks up.) I am in a dire need for assistance on this one…

This was a bug and squashed in the shipping code. Gus is
the only one who answered my question "do you have shipping
docs or code yet?". Chris Allis received new responsibilities and
is not responsible for the IPAS tool kit. This happened before
the SDK shipped.
If you're shell problem is with the shipping code, I need to know
about it.

Jonas,
Thank God!!! I've got lots more grey hair now, but hey, thats
life. Anyway, I am still using the R2 SDK, because I didn't want to
risk any bugs that might still be in R3! Oh well. Are there any
positive id marks on the 'shipping' version of r2? I was sure I had
the latest, (I even have the latest r3 but will not port till next
week.) What's my 'fastest' move? Should I get the latest r2 from
you guys, or should I risk porting? (I am ready to ship and have
customers yelling…)

Doug,
The R2 SDK is as is. There are no updates. Is the shelling problem
visible if you start 3ds with 3dshell?
I'm interested here too. I e-mailed you a plea concerning an SDK2 w/
3DS v3 shell to dos "bug". What sorts of things should I find out
from the customer? -I just put 3ds.exe or 3dshell.exe down as a
question.
Don,
<< shelling out bug..>> agghhhrrrr
Chris Allis informed me *today* that he CIS e-mailed everyone here
the shipping version of IPAS3. Who doesn't have it? Does your code
show this bug when compiled with the shipping version?
<Dos shell bug>
There is no good way to fix the Dos shell bug for R2. You should definitely
risk recompiling
with the new libraries. If you are really nervous about it, then use 386LIB to
extract the init.obj
module from the new library, and link your application with it. The init.obj
is functionally the same as in R2, only it contains some fixes for the dos
shell bug and the must open twice bug.
