I jus got an 8 meg 60ns simm modual for my M1230XA. When I tryed to configure
it using SetXA program it showed minimum access cycles for the RAM of 3. I used
that that but after checking my performance using AIBB6.5 it turned out to be
no different from the 4 meg 70ns modual I had befor. I changed the # of cycles
to 2 instead of 3 and noticed a huge difference (I was 3.5 times faster than
A4000 040 in MemTest.) I checked my memory continuously with diffe rent mem
tester programs and it showed no errors. Should I stay with 2 cycles or go back
to 3 (like it was calculated by SetXA)? Am I overriding my memory? What are the
conseuen ces? Or is it that SetXA is not calculating correct # of cycles
I wasn't aware that you could check RAM speed in software.
At any rate, if 3 is the right number of cycles, 2 might work. If you're
lucky. Or it might work sort of. For a while. Depending on the phase of
the moon. Wait until summer when the machine gets hotter. Wait for time
to pass.
This message really belongs in MicroBotics vendor support area, they can
tell you how to set your M1230XA to within spec for your SIMM. But don't
push your SIMM beyond spec. Its not worth it.
