As far as I'm concerned, there are no movies which can compare to the Planet of the apes quintology: Planet of the Apes, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Return to the Planet of the Apes, Birth of the Planet of the Apes, and Battle for the Planet of the Apes.

Joking! About the greatest movies made ever! Perish the thought! The world would be a much darker place without the proper ape movie. Without ape movies, Roddy McDowell would have had no career! I'd definitely watch a Planet of the Apes movie than some wimpy "apes are beautiful misunderstood creatures" tripe like Gorillas in the Mist. John "Now! fight like Apes!"

And I always thought that the Apes movies ruined McDowell career, it seems like the only things I've seen him in since have been low budget horror. Did you go to school in Arizona, I seem to remember a guy walking around campus in an ape costume around the time the movies where released? BTW what are your criteria for Great Movies, mine are story-line, acting, direction; Graham There's no future in Time Travel

That's what I meant with good acting! Graham There's no future in Time Travel

My main criteria for a movie is that it has a lot of things blowing up, and none of that touchy-feely "lets get in touch with our feelings stuff". That is why I like the old star trek, but not ST:TNG or DS9. In the old Star Trek, Kirk/McCoy/Spock/Scotty would scarf on an Alien babe, set phasers on maximum, and every once in a while obliterate some blood sucking alien. Meanwhile, in the new, mamby-pamby star treks, every one gets in touch with each other's feelings in one giant encounter group session, with Picard/Riker getting in touch with their feminine sides. The only thing good about the ship's counselor in ST:TNG is that every once in a while she shows up in a low-cut dress. Even the Klingons are a bunch of wusses. In a fight there is no question Kirk would kick Picard's tail all over creation, and all the while Picard would be saying, "I understand your pain James." What a bunch of wimps. John

In '65 having a 'black woman' on the bridge was pretty 'touchy feely' stuff for the time…

Heard somewhere that ST:TNG is one of the least violent shows on Teevee. What a change from the original, where, if you weren't getting top billing, you wouldn't survive the first planet. I think Picards got style, and that if he wasn't surrounded by pansies and suck-ups he'd be much better off. So who's doinking the ships counselor THIS week?

I guess my memory must be failing, because I find that both the original and STNG are very similar: Kirk/Riker, Spock/Data, etc. Even the STNG storylines seem to be recycled. Although I've never figured out how the Klingons mutated so much in such a short time! Graham There's no future in Time Travel

Do you think Kirk ever would have said "Oh, Gee, I love being second fiddle to Picard so much!. I don't think I'll ever leave the enterprise! Please, can I stay second in command forever?" And spock *never* tried to get in touch with his feelings. John

Babylon-5 seems to have broken the usual Star Trek mold. At least, every once in a while, somebody gets blown away, although I don't care much for the post-Vietnam stressed veteran commander, although they call it something else. The rest is okay though. Beautiful graphics, of course <g>.

Not only do they blow people away, they don't make any sermons about "the last of their kind " or somesuch. John

Graham, he did make a heck of a lot of episodes of Night Gallery. Some quite good. "You do trust me, don't you? Of course you do." — "To Play the King" (BBC)

That's what I meant about McDowell – "Night Gallery" while extremely entertaining didn't win many awards. I'm not too sure if I trust you, I can't see your hands. Graham WormHoles – The only way to travel
