Ben,
In IM r/t 1.06 how would I directly apply a soft-edged effect to a
selected region? I would want the effect to fade in, over say 3-6 pixels
along the selection perimeter.
Is it necessary to apply the effect to a broader region, copy to another
buffer, then rub in the area of interest?
TIA,
Jan
No – it's not hard to do. In the process panel, select "set Blend". In
there, select "Other Options". Select "Don't use blend curves" & "Smooth
Edge Transparency" & make sure that "Edge Is Percent" is NOT selected. The
slider is now the transparency in pixels. Set it to 3,4,5, or 6 as you
like. Now exit the other options and set blend panels. You're back in the
process panel. Now select "Unsharp Mask" and you're ready to go. As long
as "Unsharp mask" is selected, any process effect will apply _through_ the
blend using the automatically generated alpha information from there; in
this case, along the edges of the selected region.
