John,
I have a long way to go before I achieve broadcast quality, and I'm VERY
interested in "industrial quality" video. My stuff is pretty boring also. I'm
a Product Designer who needs to be able to present my ideas to the general
public, industry, and design firms. What else do you think I REALLY need to
get started besides a Targa 64, as I mentioned earlier? Will a high-end
commercial VCR do the trick? Or will it be too jittery? I've heard
conflicting stories.
Also, where can I get Paint Shop Pro for image viewing?

PMJI, but we use the Sony EVO-9650 Hi-8 deck to record animation to tape. It's
not quite broadcast quality, but VERY good for "industrial" work. The reason I
jumped in, is that we have 2 decks and are trying to sell one used. If you
have any interest, or if I can answer any questions, let me know.
Tim,

Sorry I didn't answer right away – I had to out of town for a few days and just
got back. Did you get your questions answered about industrial video output?
I don't know much about the Targa – I use an ATVISTA board which is not quite
equivalent. You can't play flics real-time thru the VISTA to a non-frame
accurate deck. I don't know what the Targa can do. Since it's memory mapped,
it may be possible.
I've used three different methods to output industrial/scientific video. 1) A
Magni VGA Producer Pro, playing 8-bit flics in real time directly to 8mm or VHS
tape, 2) framebuffer with single frame VTR and controller, and 3) the DPS PAR.
Method 1 is cheapest, lowest quality, and more than acceptable for most
in-plant video. Method 2 is very slow, very expensive, and very beautiful.
Method 3 seems to be the best compromise today – the PAR will do 24-bit color
AND real-time output to a commercial deck. You don't absolutely have to use a
framebuffer along with the PAR, but it sure helps in the creation process.

I'm not sure where to get it on CIS. The one I use came from some Internet
vector. It's called PSP.ZIP (about 600K) – maybe IBMFF would locate it. It is
really so useful with this 3D stuff, it should be put on the forum here.
