Hi there to everyone, a few questions:
– I use Animator PRO,
-Why in the world would someone want anipro to be run under windows ??? don't
you agree that running it under DOS, makes for more free memory for Animator
Pro to run ? Please, if you have any comments leave me a message!, I have been
using anipro with a RAM drive set up, I have 8 megs of RAM, and leave 4 megs
for anipro to run under, I have the program configured to use the RAM drive for
temp file placement. Am I right in doing this? I find this way anipro runs the
fastest.
. I hope Anipro will continue to be run under DOS, with an option to run under
Windows. Perhaps I'm missing something, or I don't understand how Windows uses
memory, but my thinking is that running anipro under Windows will slow down the
program. Please leave any info/opions/feedback – even if nasty! thanks alot.

Using a RAM drive is rather pointless with anipro because it uses a DOS
extender that will use every available bit of ram you have and more, plus it
loads as much of the flick into ram as it can when you open it. In my opinion
(someone correct me if I am wrong), using a ram drive is inefficient and a
waste of precious resources.

But boy does a RAMdisk give AME a kick in the guts! 🙂 -dave
I will have to take your word on that one. I've barely touched AME.

Multitasking.
For example:
– To be able to check out details while
writing documentation.
– To be able to animate while waiting for a large file
to be downloaded.
– To be able to do something else while ANIMATOR is
performing a lengthy task.

Ed,
To continue your list of why one would run Animator under Windows:
To duck out to Photoshop for a filter, or texture or ….
To keep a concurrent text log of what you are doing ….
To get to your schedule/calendar when a client calls ….
(oh my gosh, three lines the same length, good point ….
To be running the scanner and be bringing the sketches into Animator
at the same time.

Shameless Plug on:
You can do all that now by running AniPro in a Dos Session of OS/2!

In addition to Ed's and Tim's comments (and I agree that you shouldn't need a
ramdrive), I think that the field of Multimedia on the PC is largely populated
by Windows programs. The advantage is a more natural switching from one to
another.
As far as disadvantages, from looking at our Windows player, it seems in
general that you can get faster playback in a DOS environment. This would be a
big concern of mine.

personally I'd wait for windows 4.0 or NT version before I would start
complaining about a windows version of anipro (or even 3ds). Windows just
doesn't have the B*lls right now to do multitasking well. I like windows, but
not for heavy duty memory intensive programs.
