What are the best schools these days for a bloke to pursue a graduate degree in
the Earth Sciences?
I graduated from Penn State in '81 with a BS in Geography, with emphasis on on
the Physical side of things … climates, oceans, landforms, geology,
cartography. I never had a chance to work in my field, having been forced
instead at that time to pay the rent with a decent job elsewhere. Now, 13 years
later, I'm doing OK but I'm so fed up with life outside the sciences that I'm
thinking of cashing it all in for another shot at what I love.
I need a program to put me back in touch with the field. I want to learn.
That, after all, is what college is about.
What's out there? What do I go for? An MS in Geography or Earth Science, or a
BS in one of the specialties? Where did the GRE Geography Test go, by the way?
My recommendation to someone graduating in the Earth Sciences … or any field,
for that matter: Do whatever you can to STAY in your field!
