I was amazed, not many people really implement it, becuase, well… not many
people use it, becuase, well… it is kinda obnoxious. However, for, situations
when you are going, "dammm was that option double click or shift double click
to paste the interface into here" Balloon help comes to the rescue and I don't
have to get up and get the manual off of the shelf.
To be honest Object Master right out of the box turned out to be a great help
to me. I like BBEdit, but I have the dubious honor of working with a multitude
of object frameworks. And I was getting tired of switching between BBEdit and
MacBrowse to figure out what the hell I was doing. Object Master is at least
twice as fast as MacBrowse, and it lets me work with the framework, which saves
lots-o-time. It really is not much use to folks who are not doing OOP.
As I get to know the program better, it is like my learning curve with MPW, the
more I like it. It let me do the basics, and now I can go beyond. Good
interface design does indeed say that for each function there should be a
visible control, however, in some cases it would just be too cluttered. There
was a great mockup in MacWorld a while back of an Artists Rendition of what
MSWord 15 will look like, and most of the screen was filled with tool bars, and
there was a small 50 x 50 pixel window in the bottom right corner for typing
text.
Anyway, I agree it is not everyones cup of tea, and if you are not doing Object
Programming it is of limited use. I just use MPW's editor for non object stuff.
But it's interface is as clean as it can be given it's depth.
