#Laserwriter 8.1.2
2 messages in this thread
Just a note to let anyone using Laserwriter 8.1.2 driver with a Compaq Pagemarq
printer with a Fax Modem installed. If you try to use the fax function of the
LW 8 Driver you will find that the Printer faxes ok but pulse dials instead of
tone dials. The driver doesn't give you an option to change this and even
though the default for the printer is tone, somehow the driver forces it to
change to pulse. Also if you use 4th Dimension and have a procedure that uses
the command print selection without a page settings command before it will tell
the printer to fax on the second and each following use of the command. You
will not see the fax dialog box and the number dialed will be whatever number
you last set in the fax dialog. If there is no number then the print job will
just dissappear without a trace and no error message. I have talked to Compaq
and this is not a problem with their PPD but with the Apple Driver. Hopefully
someone at Apple is on this and we can look forward to a version 8.1.3 soon.

Uh…it'd be real hard for most people to be "LaserWriter 8.1.2" users, because
that version is a Kanji-only release that at the moment isn't available outside
of Japan. An English-language release of 8.1.2 is not planned, though there
might be one on the Developer CD as a convenience for developer testing.
As has been noted before in the correct forum, the Fax support something that
plugs into the driver, and the default support is pretty minimal. A more
robust version is available to Compaq from Adobe, and Compaq could make it
available to you, but they choose not to do so. Complain to Compaq.
