Does anyone care to discuss the merits of the Visual Circuits Bit
Blitzer product vs. the PAR? I attended the demo here in Minneapolis
and am wondering if anyone has any comments… Check out the file in
the libraries.
The info file seems to be quite biased and incomplete. They list the
availability of the PAR as "June 94?", although I am rendering to my
PAR as I type! The file does not mention that the output is not
genlockable (Is that a word?). I do like the ability to play files
from memory and I wish the par had the scripting finctions of the Bit
Blitzer (I'm sure that DPS is probably working on that…). The Bit
Blitzer outputs directly to the VGA display and requires a Transcoder
(included) to produce NTSC video. There appears to be no way to
output to an NTSC monitor while working on the VGA display. Output
to component video requires an additional (not yet available) module
added to the transcoder. Video capture is not available.
The quality of the animations was good with some compression artifacts
evident (crosshatch pattern) especially during disk playback. The
transitions and scripting functions were nice but do not include any
fade type transitions. The system hung several times during the
demo, which was explained as a "loose HD cable". The memory playback
seemed very good. I would like to hear if anyone has seen a side by
side comparison of the PAR vs. Bit Blitzer.
The effect of the 10 modes of compression were unclear, and I did not
understand if the compression was adaptive per frame as it is on the
PAR, or if there were only 10 fixed levels.
