Warmstart Probs
5 messages in this thread
Hi,
Since I installed my WB 2.04 ROM my 2000 refuses to warm-start. After a
warm-start the screen cycles through it's colors then I get a guru. The
machine will cold start no problem – but it guru's every time on warm
start.
Before I got the new ROM I installed a Supergen 2000s genlock and when I
first put it in the machine would not boot at all. My dealer told me to
check jumper j200 (I think – I forget the exect number) and when I changed
it from pins 1 & 2 to 2 & 3 it booted up fine. Could that have anything to
do with this problem?
My motherboard is Rev. 6 and I cut the jumper on the ROM chip.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, David
David,
One of several things:
1. Bad ROM
2. Improperly seated ROM
3. Something in your startup-sequence that's not compatible.
Try booting from the 2.0 WB disk. If that fails, check the seating
of the ROM. IF it still fails, pull boards one at a time until it boots.
Then install the other boards back in. If it still boots, add the
"problem" board. If it fails to boot…you've found the problem.
Oh…you don't by any chance have an A2620 or A2630 in your machine
do you?
If so…you have to add new ROMs to that board also, otherwise it won't
boot.

David,
If you do have a 2620 or 2630 board, you can temporarily (?) forego the
new ROMs. I have an older 2630 board with the old roms that aren't
compatable with 2.04. A company called DevWare (a public domain company)
sells a disk, WB105 that has a program called "26×0". You install 2.04 rom
and remove your 2620 or 2630 board, start up your machine, run this 26×0
program, and it writes the 2.04 kickstart to a file. Then you
re-disassemble, put back in your 1.3 roms and your 2620 or 2630 board, then
you can use the SetCPU program to load the Kickstart 2.04 into fastram.
I've been using this setup for about 2-3 months now and it works great. It
adds about 10-15 seconds to a re-boot…but heck, 2.04 is so solid, I
rarely have to reboot!
And well, if you don't have a 2620 or 2630 board, I don't know what to
tell ya! 🙂

Kelly,
Humm…you left your message to the wrong person…I've been
running 2.04 on my A2620 equipped Amiga for about 6 months now. First via
software, now via ROM.
