I just got a LineLink 144e (Technology Concepts, Inc.) from Mac Warehouse.
Mac users can upgrade this modem to a fax modem with a SOFTware upgrade.
What are the chances GPFax would do the same for an Amiga?

I just recently learned that the LineLink is made(?) by Prometheus, which
has a message area in MODEMVENDER. You may be able to get more info
about the modem there, I found a file that describes the 'S' registers
used by the LineLink.

I don't know about the fax, but I think someone recently uploaded a
voice-mail software that works with the LineLink. I believe some of the
more generic fax programs might work.

I just got a LineLink 144e recently too and just got the AVMSuite software
here in LIB 5 for a simple voice mail system.
I also believe we can use the Generic GPFax software with the linelink
model.
Let me know how you make out and I'll do the same. So far I haven't been
able to get the modem to work with the supplied MAC software. Neither the
voicemail FAX. I bought the FAX/VOICE software upgrade with the modem.
Keep getting the error response "Modem not responding" when I try and use
the AutoConfigure modem button.

I've tried two programs I downloaded from the Communications library. I
could even figure out how to use the one in LCFAX.LHA.
AFAX13.LHA seems to supply most of the documentation one should need, but
I obviously haven't figured it out yet. I get no modem activity, and a
debug file tells me variously "Bad Input," "Open Font cmbx10.font Failed,"
and "Can't open screen (1728w,65436h)."
I take this to mean that I haven't set up the configuration file properly
yet, and it will only be after I geet past those errors that the modem
will get tried. It should at least dial, after all.
Do you have Amax or something? I have no way of even trying the Mac
software, though I was tempted to buy it to see if the documentation
provided any clues.

I've got a MAC IIcx to try out the software. I haven't given AMAX a chance at
it yet.
I did get the MAXFAX (supplied software from MACwarehouse) to start by
attempting to register with Prometheus' FAX setup but I cancelled it when it
informed me it was sending six pages! I thought it was an error, since I only
filled out a short form for the registration. The other software that was
provided (a simple term program) seems to work but when I try to use it to go
online with CIS (supplied script) it dials and connects but never finishes the
login, just seems to hang. It does have an AutoSetup feature that polls the
modem and sets up the init string for the modem. I'm not at that machine now or
I'd include the string here. I will upload it in another POST when I get home.
Using it manually I can't get the PPN or Password to respond, nor do any
prompts from CIS display on the screen. There is the register &R or is it just
R, R0 for PC, R1 for MAC, that might a partial clue, but all the other default
parameters seem OK. Using AT&V will display the settings for you.
Autopilot works with the modem, but sometimes during the initial connect I must
issue the +++ to put modem into command mode, then issue an ATO to go back to
data mode, sometimes a couple times, then AP takes over and the script if
follows starts running smoothly. I've ordered GPFax from Safe Harbor and am
eagerly awaiting its arrival. I've also ordered the CDROM file system ASIM
(sp?) for the PowerCD I also purchased. The CDROM is single speed and slow but
it has some interesting features, portability and a remote control for use with
PhotoCD and your TV.
I'll keep you informed if I succeed with the FAX setup.

MaxFax is not very good software. Our software (I work for Delrina) is
much better and works great with all class 1 and class 2 faxmodems. I do
alot of coding on my Emplanted Amiga and use it as my platform to check
stability.
GPFax is the only software available for the Amiga platform that is
reasonably good.
In any case, if you want fax software for a MAC or emulation, you have to
get Delrina Fax PRO. It includes OCR in the standard package.

I saw that file posted in the libraries and also have a LineLink 144e,
have you gotten the voicemail to work? I thjought of downloading it but
decided to wait and let someone else experiment! also I can't seem to
connect at anything other than 9600 bd even though some of the BBS boast
14400. (GPFax works flawlessly with the LineLink)
