#Auto Reflection HELP!!!

I seem to be having a problem with Auto-reflection. If I make a
sphere auto-reflective and render it with a background, it appears to
cubically map the background onto the sphere, rather than spherically
map it. This is true of any shaped object I apply an auto-reflective
material to, it appears to be cubically mapped with the background,
whereas the manual states that it will be spherically mapped. Any
ideas??? Regards,
Auto-reflection maps render the geometry as a cubic reflection map,
and the background as a spherical reflection map (as it says on page
9-62). You can test this by making a sphere and putting an automatic
refmap on it, and then rendering it in front of a bitmap background.
The background will be spherically reflection-mapped onto the
sphere. (I just did checked that out here, btw.)
I tried putting a sphere in front of a background, applying an
auto-reflective material and it appears to be cubic mapped! I put
'clone' of the sphere in the picture with a reflection map of
Valley_l.tga (spherically mapped) and it appears spherically mapped,
and the other appears cubically mapped (ie there is a 'flat'
hexangonal of the image on top of the auto-sphere, but not of the
other sphere) Shouldn't the two spheres appear identical? As one is
using the backgroung bitmap as a map, and the other is
auto-reflecting the background. If you try it with the two spheres
you will se what I mean. (BTW You can do both sphere's individually
to get away from the problem of the Auto-reflect sphere reflecting
the mapped sphere). Please let me know how it goes…If you have no
luck, I will upload a sample mesh that illustrates the problem.

Gary's taken a couple of days off, but I tried your experiment and the two
spheres appeared virtually identical (with the exception of the reflected
second sphere in the auto-reflect). Why don't you put together a project file
with a readme.doc describing the problem and send it to Jonas to check out.
We're obviously going in two different directions here.

Thanks Jack, I will send up a project file with what I mean. It is mainly
apparent when you look at the top section of the autoreflect sphere.
I will throw the project file up here today.
