#3DS and MIPS Engines

Yea…
I've an old Intel-a-vision… Can we port to it? Really! Why break the focus…
By porting to a VERY narrow market… We spend resource chasing after a very
few seats… And why? The marketing side of the phrase "We can run on SGI's…"
The Dr does not buy it! I stand firm in my thinking… We should be working on
V4 rather than porting to a limited market. I love 3 and have 0 complaints
about it! Still, why scatter your focus… And as stated… Without the support
of the geo engines… Whats the point!
NT, Pentium, etc… Way before a SGI render engine.
Too late, here comes the shoe…

Dan,
I take it back, your logic is clear headed, you haven't eaten to many
mushrooms! <g>
Maybe John has! <g>

Well, there's "important" markets that are important because they're big and
make cash, and then there's "important" markets because they are high-profile.
Autodesk could get plenty of good PR from the fact that "8 out of 10 game
developers make really cool stuff with 3D Studio."
Thanks John…
I wonder how many SGI's are ready for Studio rendering amoung us PC'ers…

The press release did not mention that the Yost Group was doing the SGI port,
so perhaps this is an Autodesk side project. I seriously _doubt_ Gary, et al,
would take time off R4 for this!
Now the question is, will Autodesk get smart and port a renderer to other
platforms (AXP, AXP, AXP, and AXP)? I think the SGI think is WAAAAAYYY off,
practicality wise, but from a pure marketing and maybe future development
standpoint I guess it's valid.

Sorry…
Got to toss in on this…
If Yost et al are'nt going to be tied down… Cool. But I still think that
resource has a way of being finite. If you are working on the SGI stuff, then
you are not doing something else… I think we should look for a larger # of
seats than 3/4 speed SGI render'rs… And to do it right, you need those
special afterburners used in the code. I'll bet that is going to be more than
an afternoon at the ol treminal… And as we should note… It's not the box.
It's the tool!
Gary's tool is best…
