#AMAX WON'T RUN

I have an AMAX IV and can't get it to work. I recently upgraded from the II plus (which worked fine). Now when i ask it to boot from either a mac floppy or a hard drive partition it just won't boot up. next thing i see is the guru. I am operating on a 2000 and have a VXL accellerator. I am using 2.1 os. I am trying to install system 7 mac with no luck. Has anyone else had and or solved this problem? I would sure appreciate any assistance. Ready soft is hard to get assistance from. Shane, I found ReadySoft quite helpful. On my A4000-40 I could run AmaxIV ok, but it crashed when i tried to quit back to amigados. I faxed them, and they sent me the latest version of the software, 4.008: problem cured. Pete Jones, flying on AutoPilot from Brussels, Belgium

lucky you. 🙂 i called readysoft about problems with PC0: causing amax4 to lockup during shutdown or restart. they said they would mail me a the v4.007 software last month. i'm still waiting. 🙁 i guess i will call them monday to complain. i wish they would have a forum here on compuserve where i could just download the software as it as updated instead of having to fight with them to get them to mail it.

Thanks for the tip, My version of amax is older. I will call them. The trouble is trying to get through to them. If anyone else has the same problem with their amax please let me know!!!

Shane, The problem is likely that you have assigned too large a memory block to the Mac system. On an A2000 which has 16 bit RAM you must use 24 bit addressing, even though you have some 32 bit RAM on the accelerator. You probably need to use a smaller Mac system memory assignment. Try just a small amount, maybe 2 meg, to see if it will then work. Be sure you have properly installed the AmaxInit file to run in your startup. You must first turn off the machine before trying to boot Amax after you install AmaxInit. Also be sure you installed the new chip in the correct direction. Be sure the chip notch is pointing in the same direction as the adjacent chips.
