#SCSI Terminator???
20 messages in this thread
I am looking for a External SCSI Terminator, 25 pin. For a Amiga.
Does anyone know where I can find one? I have spent 2 days calling local
Amiga and PC stores and noone has any.
Btw, where do you guys find things like Jumpers, internal SCSI resistor
packs, ect… Whenever I need anything like this I go nuts trying to find
them.

Tony,
Presuming you mean the db25 type connector (same type as serial port or
parallel port connectors)…then you need to go to a Mac computer dealer.

I called a MAC dealer and was told they only had the Centronics 50 pin and
he had no idea there was a 25 pin terminator. Hopefully, this was just a
uninformed salesperson and I will find out tommorow when I visit them.
Funny how CompUSA has cables for the 25pin>50pin Centronics and plenty of
Centronics Terminators but not one 25 pin terminator.

Have you tried Commodore? CBM made a 25 pin SCSI terminator that was used
on the 3000 Tower system. You might be able to get one from a dealer, or
from those guys who took over CBM's service operations.

I had seen on of those on exactly that same system (A3000T) so I knew they
existed but none of the local Amiga Dealers have any or even know of any.
How can I get ahold of CBM's service operations? Anyone have a phone
number?

The most recent number I have for Service Management Group is
410-952-9975. According to my 3000T service manual, the part number for
the 25 pin SCSI Terminator is 390770-01.
-Jim
Thanks for the number but it seems to be out of order.
The new number is (900) 740-8764 but the number I needed was for Computer
Parts and Manuals (610) 363-4000. I was told that they don't currently
have the part but that they have an order to CBM of Germany (that makes
them) that they are waiting on.
Thanks for your help.

Sorry about that, I was afraid that number might be old. Glad you found
the current one.
If you're in a hurry, I'd bet anyone handy with a soldering iron could
whip up a homemade version of the 25 pin terminator.

I have thought of that but at the moment I am not in a hurry. I only have
the problem when I move the external tape drive and the terminator must go
with it.
I have got C= looking for one so I should get it next century. :^)

Anthony..
The MAC dealer should have 25-pin SCSI Terminator, if not call
MacWarehouse @ 1-800-255-6227. Item # ACC 0601 For $14.96..

I was so glad when I read your message but after calling MacWarehouse I
was told it was a 50 pin terminator and they don't carry any 25 pin
terminators. Are you positive that it is a DB-25 pin SCSI terminator?

I went back and checked the catalog and it does state 25-pin on page 133,
but looking through the listing I noticed that there is no listing for a
50-pin terminator so I guess the 25 is a misprint. I checked in a APS
catalog and nothing there…
What is it you want to terminat??????
Eddie.Ski
If you're terminating an external component, it is indeed a 25 pin
terminator. 50 pin cable is used internally. And C= does/did make
one…I have one on my A3070 tape drive. It came with it. I would call
safe harbor and/or Grapevine and ask if they have one.

Anthony,
BTW….depending on who's SCSI host adapter you are using, you may not
need a terminator on the 25 pin connector. Most host adaters have terminators
on the board and the connector on the rear is simply a stub off the board.
With an internal drive with it's terminators on, the SCSI bus would be properly
terminated.

I am using a A3000 and the onboard SCSI controller. I have 2 internal
drives(last one terminated) and a external Tape Drive (terminated). The
problem comes when I try to remove the tape drive since I would then need
to terminate the port.
The way I understand it I need to terminate the last internal and last
external of a SCSI chain, if no external then the First and last drive.
The problem comes since I sometimes have an external and sometimes I
don't, so I won't be able to terminate the first internal.

Tony,
I think, if you have no external drives then you need no other
termination. You don't need to terminate the first internal…the scsi
adapter/host has termination of its own. It acts as terminus for both
internal and external. So your last internal and last external (if any)
are the two places you need termination.
If somebody knows different, please correct me.

I realize that you only need the Last internal and last external
terminated, and that is the way it is done but when I remove the external
drive I need to terminate the port otherwise it won't recognize the last
internal drive.
Note, this is on a A3000 with the included controller (motherboard), the
controller is NOT terminated, as far as I know.

Buy an issue of ComputerShopper.

I don't remember seeing any ads for SCSI terminators but next time I buy a
HD I am definately getting extra `everything' like jumpers, resistor
packs, ects…

They have adds for cable places that sell every type of SCSI cable,
connector or terminator you could think of.
Good luck finding a HD vendor who'll sell extra jumpers or resistor packs.
