#Oxxi Modula-2?

I've heard rumors that Oxxi is going to publish a Modula-2 system fairly
soon. Is there any you can find out if this is true, and if so what the
time frame for release is? If it makes a difference, I've also seen it
referenced in a product list included with one of the other Oxxi products I
have. Thanks …
I wouldn't look for that M2 compiler for a LONG time. If ever.

I agree, but perhaps if EVERYONE writes Oxxi, maybe thay can "push"
Martin along a little? M2 is stagnating and it's not the fault of the
owners of the compilers…

Well, look at Martin's situation. He's a full-time employee of C=. He
could spend his "free" time on an M2 compiler or continuing to develop
Turbotext. Clearly, TTX has a bigger market than a compiler.
In retrospect I can't believe Leon F. managed to buy M2Sprint. It's not
like he's sold any more copies of Benchmark as a result. Heck, if I'd have
known, I'd have lent some $ to keep the product in the hands of someone
who'd keep it going. All those development man-hours. Down the tubes.

I think I can understand Martin;s position (as much as I know of it).
Perhaps he should sell what he has already done to someone who could finish
the project rather than let an 80% complete system lie dormant.
I don't know what the logic was behind the buyout of M2Sprint. All I know
is that I'm pretty well upset with the purchase of (now) 3 M2 packages and
absolutely no support whatsoever. Not even new defs for 2.04. Not even bug
fixes (like the fp conversion routines).
Benchmark could have been and should have been the TurboPascal of the
Amiga, but the marketing was completely botched. It had a lot of potential.
Hey, not EVERYONE likes to tear their hair out with C. It STILL could be if
the package was supported and updated properly. The debugger is outstanding
and the compiler only needs some improvements like optimizations and make
it produce standard object files.
What's this about a HiSoft Pascal? Have you heard anything?

There has been a HiSoft Pascal advertised in British Amiga mags that's
supposed to be a more-or-less clone of Turbo Pascal (integrated
environment, interactive source-level debugger, etc. – at least if my
memory's any good …). I've talked to my local dealer, and he called his
distributor while I was there. Seems it's not available over here quite
yet, though he did ask if I would buy the British version if he got it. I
said I didn't want to commit until I'd seen the package (I've already got
two languages and ARexx … 8^) ). But it sounds like something I won't be
able to pass up when it hits.

Very interesting indeed. I'll have to do some letter writing soon. I
presume this is the same company that does the HiSoft Basic, right?
I wonder how advanced it is…

Hi! I am an owner of Benchmark M2 and thought I would add a comment or two
about this. I received a notice that Oxxi was publishing a M2 compiler
(Titan M2?). I called them before Christmas to see if it would be
available, and they said maybe sometime in '92. I also inquired about
their Titan Ada. They said that they gave that project up. I also called
Leon F. to find out if he was upgrading BM2 for 2.0. He said he was. Hope

I wrote Oxxi several months ago inquiring about their new Modula II (which
is the proper name, I believe). No reply whatsoever. 29 cents is hard to
come by, I guess.
Did Leon say he was updating the whole package or just supplying us with
2.0 defs? I mean, that compiler is good, but it's showing it's age. The
editor is, well, emacs and I can think of a dozen other things that could
and need to be done to keep it up with Manx/Lattice. If it doesn't compete
technically, it won't compete financially.

I know, but David's right – it doesn't hurt to ask. And it sure would be
nice to have a product available that the makers of a lesser package
couldn't buy and squelch.
