#Amiga A4000 Modification

Perhaps someone visiting this section will be able to answer the following:
1. Can Amiga A4000 68030 and 68040 CPU cards be swapped from one machine to
another? I have an Amiga A4000/68040 with an 09 Buster chip and a 68030 with an
011 Buster. The Buster 09 will not work with the Toaster Oven.
Thus my question: can a 68040 card be easily swapped to another motherboard
currently mounting a 68030? Are there any jumpers that have to be changed or
any other actions needed?
2. Does anyone know of an extremely reliable source that can desolder a
Buster 09 and replace it with a Buster 11?

I haven't done it, but I've seen CPU cards swapped casually, with no
appaernt problems or jumper settings, even 030 and 040 swaps.
Thanks, AKi. I'm going to try hunting down an A4000 service manual (if such a
thing exists) before trying it. I sure don't want to mess up a motherboard or
any component at this particular point in time. <G>

Jerry, you may want to try Software Hut for a 4000 manual. I recall they
had some 2000 stuff, so they may have one around. Sorry, don't have their
number in fornt of me, but should be in any AmigaWorld…

Try Software hut for the service manual. I just got some for the A2000s
various incarnations from them.

sold out their stock of A4000 manuals. All gone. – sigh –

It Can be done. you need to change 2 jumpers on the motherboard. I don't have
the jumper names with me but:
1) they are under the cpu card.
2) they are marked with int/ext (remeber to write down their initial state).
3) they must be changed together and to the same settings.
I have done this many times with no problems.
I hope you'll have no problems (you can never know, CBM have changed the
desighn so me=any times its hard to tell).

That's probably the information I need. I swapped the CPU's without success
before logging on and unfortunately buttoned up the case since. The 68040
didn't work. When my Flyer arrives and I need to get into the case again, I'll
reset the jumpers. As I recall those particular jumper blocks are three pins,
so I assume you mean to simply relocate the jumpers to the other side, right?
