#label on trans. obj.
8 messages in this thread
I have created a semi transparent plastic bottle, and I don't know what
the best way to approach putting a label on it is. If I just apply the label
to it as a bitmap the label is transparent like the rest of the object. I
would appreciate any ideas.
Thanx,
Richard
Richard,
You should be taking the NAAUG Telecourse 3DS2. This _exact_ effect was just
covered. You need to use an opacity map with your decal.

Thanks for the info, I will look into the course.

If you're interested, I can E-mail you a project I did which has what
you're looking for. It was a glass syringe, with a lettering on it. Using
opacity maps is the key.
The 3ds file and relevant maps are about 800 Kb.

Any chance of you uploading this to the mesh/projects section of the lib?

Uh, yeah, I guess so. I hadn't figured there would be much interest. Silly me
<G>
I'll send it up tonight as syring.zip

It's a real popular question and I don't recall any *.3ds in the lib that
demonstrates it. I know this question will come up again. 🙂
Thanks again.

Well, now you can point them to the libraries. <G>
A word of warning to those who want to use the mesh. The objects were all
created in ACAD12 AME. *Do Not "Unify Normals"* on these objects. 3DS and ACAD
don't see things the same way, and you won't like the results. They are all
facing the correct direction in the mesh, but it took me awhile to figure out
what the problem was when I made them.
