#NEC CDR-25 Problems

Does anyone recall an acticle in an Amiga magazine that discussed modifying an
NEC CDR-25 drive to work with the Amiga? The drive works ok with music CD's but
gives a CD0:NDOS error on ISO9660 CD-ROM's. I've tried using an NEC CDR-38
drive and it worked perfectly, which makes me pretty sure it's a problem with
the CDR-25 drive. I would gladly appreciate it if anyone can tell me what
modifications need to be made to the drive, or if someone could tell me which
issue of what magazine the acticle was in.
Hardware: A1000, Rejuvinator II, Spirit IN1000, Saphire, Dataflyer 1000,
Quantum 540 (I'm using the Dataflyer's SCSI bus for the CD-ROM after the hard
drive).
Software: OS3.1, Xetec CDx v2.01

I don't know this article, but have you tried different CD-ROM filesystems?
If Audio play works, the CD-Rom seems to work correctly with the Amiga.
(Although there might be an incompatibility between your host adapter and the
CD-Rom, as
reading data involves higher bus traffic than issuing Audio commands)
In the library is a demo of my CacheCDFS, have you tried this one?

Thanks Oliver, I'll give it a try.
Since I'm using OS3.1, I'll also give it's file system a try too. But the thing
that really gets me is that an NEC CDR-38 works fine with the current setup.
Another thing I might mention is that the CDR-38 drive had jumpers for
termination and the CDR-25 drive does not. Also, in the documentation for the
Xetec software, it mentioned that the same situation which is happening to my
NEC CDR-25 drive may happen with a 'Chinon CD?-435' drive. It said to replace
the M60 ROM in the drive or cut the ATN signal in the SCSI cable which will
defeat disconnect/reconnect. I tried cutting the line but it had no effect.
Unfortunately there were no tips on problems with NEC drives in the Xetec
README file.

Uff! What manual that is… horror! Don't do such things! This in fact may work
with a certain drive/hostadaptor combination, but will make things worse with
ANYTHING ELSE!
