I need help and cannot get it from my Autodesk dealer (or Autodesk). Basically, my dealer's response is "That doesn't happen on my machine…" I hope someone out here may have had a similar problem. I would be deeply indebted.. I have just purchased a Pentium (Gateway 2000 P5-100XL). The following is what I have loaded on my machine: Video card: ATI Mach64 2MB PCI Sound card: SoundBlaster 16 Hard drives: Two 1-gig Western Digital Enhanced PCI IDE drives RAM: 32 MB Cache: 256K DOS: Version 6.22 (Also, SONY 17" Vivitron Monitor, Micorsoft Mouse, Windows for Workgroups-which I do not bring up and there is a network card installed that I intended to use to network my 486 and P5-100 together with) I have not been able to successfully install 3DS-R4 on this machine. My 486-50 DX2 runs Release 4 perfectly. At first I could not even get R4 to come up, it gave me a stream of errors while the VIBCFG was running, such as: Abnormal Program Termination: Illegal Instruction: CS:EIP = 00Fh:0017789Ch or Abnormal Program Termination: Page Fault: CS:IP 000Fh:00104F47h I tried wiping out my autoexec.bat and config.sys files completely and the same error occurred. I re-installed many times on both my C and D drives and there are times that R4 will come up (from my C drive). During those brief moments of pleasure, while working in a project file in the 3D-editor, other errors are displayed at the top of my monitor and I'm sorry to say I have not written them down yet, but they mentioned overlapping or extended memory, something about field lengths, they all seem to pertain to memory allocation or locations. I swapped my video card with the one in my 486 and removed the network card (even though it is not in use) and the same exact errors occur. I bumped my mouse drivers down to the version I have on my 486 (9.0) vs the Intelifont? <–spelling? drivers. I e-mailed Vibrant on their BBS but have not heard a response back yet. I am wondering if it is a problem with the Enhanced IDE drives and R4 or Vibrant's software… Any suggestions, I have been staying up many late nights trying to resolve this and have fallen behind schedule with my workload. Thanks in advance. Denise

Hello Denise, I have R4 on P5-90 with no problems now. At first I forgot to Exclude the memory locations for my video card. In QEMM's first line in the CONFIG.SYS, DEVICE=QEMM386.SYS RAM X=A000-C7FF. You will have to check the video card books for the info and what ever memory manager you use to exclude. I think I remember a thread on people having problems with ATI Mach series of video cards. If you have more problems drop me a line. JoeD

Joe, Thanks, getting ready to try this. I had swapped the ATI card out with a Paradise and received the same error. Will let you know. Thanks a bunch.

I had taken the EMM statement out to try to avoid this problem. I put it back in according to your specs and it seems to be running fine now. If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. I am a Product Manager for an educational software development company in California. By the way, we're looking for a Mac Programmer. Thanks again and again.

Denise, You said you're looking for a Mac programmer. If you're anywhere around Escondido (S. Cal), I may have a lead for you. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

Denise – Hopefully someone who knows the answer to your problem will log on this weekend. If not, I'm sure that someone will get your question Monday when the regular Autodesk employees are back in the office. Sounds very frustrating. Anne

Thanks Anne, getting alot of help. Hopefully something will work.

Denise: Sounds frustrating. Your dealer should be trying to help you, instead of passing the buck. Where are you located? Maybe we can find a good dealer in your neighborhood. Evan Yares, Design Automation Systems

Thanks. My dealer is MicroCAD Digital Imaging in Santa Monica. I tried calling AVIDD Electro nics also but did not get a return call. I wish Autodesk supported their own product. I am located in Torrance California, near Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, all the Beaches…! 🙂

I saw Evan Yares note, but missed what your problems were. We're a dealer in West Los Angeles (where the 405 meets the 10). Anything I can help with?
