>at least we are 3 know regulary visiting this forum Make that four ! Since Yesterday I am visiting this Forum to. Got myself an offline reader. Maybe a chance here to introduce myself. I am a 22 year old student of the Institiute of Visual Communication te Genk, Belgium. Here I study MEDIA. I am using 3D Studio now for about a year and I love it. Extually I am planning to make my graduating project with it. (yes I am graduating this Year). Other intrests of me are Cd-rom and interactivity. Greetz Danny Tollenaers Lanaken

Great, Well I'm visiting this forum for nearly 2 years know and it is the forum I visit most on Cserve. I have 2.5 years 3DS experience, and use it mainly for architecture. I'm 28, I've just finished a promotional folder for creating Photorealistic Images and animations for others mainly in the building sector. So far I mostly used it on own projects with the exception of some for others, however I haven't done promotion for it until recently. If you are intrested and need some help for your graduating project I might be able to add something concerniing the importance of Visualisation in architecture. Maybe we should talk dutch. Hello Christophe, Are you active as a professional user of 3D Studio or at a semi-prof / hobby basis ? I understand you do architectural visualisation, right ? Is it a big market in Belgium ? Where can I situate it, at the desktop level or way up with the high-tech people ? I know some guys from TRIX who also do some architectural walktroughs, they work with SGI. >If you are interested and need some help for your graduating project I might be >able to add something concerning the importance of Visualisation in >architecture. I appreciate this and will remember this offer, thanks !! I think I can use all the advise I can get. Yust have to make a concept because I really don't know what I am gonna make. A little fantasy ride, a visualisation or a more traditional animation ? I have to make a decision very soon. There is also a possibility I can make the animation interactive on CD-I. The disadvantage of this is MPEG. If you are interested I keep you in touch. Greetz Danny Tollenaers Lanaken, Belgium

Hello Danny, Well it all started as a hobby but it is slowly getting more then that. I regulary do still images for others although we have a good working architectural bureau ourselves. I heard of TRIX but do not know anyone, and I only work at the desktop level using PC's, if animations are needed I can use 2 Pentiums and 486/66 at this time. I do not plan to go to SGI at this time, and probably never why should I if my results for architecture are great. If you want I could send you my promotional pamphlet showing some of my work, it is just about being printed this week, and this is the first promotion I make for my Visualisation, so far the work I got was through relations. I'm curious what it will result to??? Problem with architectural Visualisation is cost it is really to expensif at this time to make for houses, larger projects are in reach. I'm slowely trying to diversify to other regions then architecture, however it is still an unknown process to many people. For Animations in architecture I currently use a PAR. I have used a second hand Targa+ 32 for making two animations last year. However if I need ATVista quality I go to a service bureau in Gent, same if I need a large network capability, our usergroup currently lets say since 3 weeks we have 10 Pentiums networked and setup so 3DS can be used with it. We have a workshop next week 8 March on Visualisation. I will be presenting some stuff there. Autodesk will show Animation Studio if all works out, we will have some dye subs from tektronix available etc… We are rendering an animation at the moment that I will place on my PAR this weekend. The only thing really is you never have enough disk space, I've got 4.5GB at this time from those aboot 1.7 is dedicated for the PAR, and for backup I use MO and DAT DDS2. Well I'm certainly intrested in staying in touch,

Well, you are right. It is certainly not necessary to have a SGI to make good things. You could do everything (and maybe more) right on the desktop level. I think it's gonna be a tough business for SGI en partners. I see you are equipped well, a PAR a rendering plant, storage capabilities… We certainly have to stay in touch :-))) About half a year ago I switched from Amiga to PC. Sold my overbuild A500 and bought myself a Pentium, and until now I love the PC. Bit by bit I expanded, got 32 Megs know, a SyQuest 270 storage media and the necessary software to do it. A few days ago I finished my first serious project. It's one off my three graduating projects. This was a promo for the Institute of Visual Communication itself. I succeed to morph 5 persons quite well with Elastic Reality and combined some animations from 3DS on it. Looks very good, even if I have to say so for myself ;-). The big problem was getting al this to Betacam. This time I was lucky and got some facilities, a Mac with a Digital Magic Video card. Something like the PAR but much more expensive and so far as I heard also better. You can hook up to six SCSI disks on it for storage. This one had three disks of 2 Meg containing a total of 18 minutes maximum quality video. Digital Magic is available in different environments, fully digital, component and composite. The big disadvantage I had was transferring my Targa files from DOS to a MAC Hd. Some DOS SyQuest could be read by the MAC OS 7.5 but others didn't. I still don't know why. Lucky I had MACSEE for the PC so I hooked up a MAC disk on my PC an transferred it that way. I still had to do some tricks with Norton disk doctor to get all of my files on the Digital Magic but in the end I succeed, Pfwww ! You were talking about a user group. Is this a user group for 3D Studio itself or more for the architectural business ? If you want you may send me you're promotional pamphlet which you created. I am very curious about it. Hello Danny T. I missed the beginning message you posted and I would like to see it if you could direct me to it. I have assumed from what I have seen that you are intertested in VR for architectural visualization. I invite you to look at some software available in the CDK section of this Asoft forum. I am very interested in hearing your feedback. The NAVSUM.ZIP file is a text file describing an interactive software package called the Virtual Environment NAVIGATOR, based on Autodesks CDK that reads in DXF, 3DS files and also runs inside of AutoCAD (in the ADS version). The NAVFlY.zip (dos) and NAVFLW.zip (Windows, with textures) files contain free flyers for 3D models. (Dos only supports DXF, but Windows has both). I recommend working with the Windows version if you use 3D Studio. It is a really fun tool, if you are working on creating low polygon models for faster real-time motion and interaction. There is also an interesting GIF there rendered in 3D Studio, of a model of a skyscraper created by Sanford Kennedy. I hope you are succesful and if you have the time to let me know what you come across, I would be most appreciative. I would be happy to reciprocate. Angela Pate MicronGreen, Inc.
