Having never programmed for Windows, can you or some else here give me a read
on programming DLLs? Making a rash assumption <g> that IPAS routines would be
implemented as DLLs, are DLLs language/compiler independent of the core code?

Hi Larry – I see you've been out of town (out of the country?) again. Hope you
are doing well.
PMJI, but DLLs a not much more than (compiled) subroutines that don't have to
be linked ahead of time. There are certain coding restrictions, but in
general, you can write a DLL in nearly any language (C, etc) and call it from a
program written in nearly any other language. We've done several image
processing projects with the UI in Visual Basic and the hard-core code
implementated as C-coded DLLs.

Technically, I wasn't out of the country. I was doing a process safety
analysis for a company near Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
Sounds good on the compilers. I currently don't do C, but my wife said she
would help <g>. Of course, if I can get by using Fortran…

Larry, did you get a chance to tour the dish at Arecibo?

I went up there on a Sunday about 10:30 am, but they don't open for tours until
2. So I went over to some nearby caverns and spent the day there.
I will be back down there for 2 more 2 week sessions, and definitely plan on
looking it over. I've heard conflicting information on whether you actually
can get a tour of the facility, or can just visit the observation disk.
Given the size of some of the supports for the collector guy wires I saw over
the hill, it ought to be impressive!

The _real_ thrill would be a walk over the dish on that girder assembly that's
holding it up. I saw someone do that in a documentary once, and the scale of
the dish from that angle would be IMMENSE.
There's no way that they'd bring tours out there though…
If you could just get near enough to it to sense its mass, it ought to be worth
it.
