just checking back for any new news regarding my crashing problem (gross scaling on merged objects). Didn't mean to sound grumpy on my last response to you regarding re-loading program and checking for viruses. We did a full virus check – no problem there. We did not reload due since this problem shows up on two different machines which run two different R4 upgrades. Any other ideas? Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris, << just checking back for any new news regarding my crashing problem (gross scaling on merged objects). >> I searched the message base and I can't find your original post. Can you provide me with detailed steps that causes your problem consistanty on all of your available machines, please? jonas[adesk]

sure. whenever we merge an object from a 3DS or PRJ file and have to grossly scale the object up or down, we are in trouble. the problem doesn't occur until we jump to another module, like mat. editor, and then jump back. the result is very large, wild triangles all over the screen. can't even scale all the way out on these. any action at this point crashes the system. thanks, chris

Hi Chris, << the problem doesn't occur until we jump to another module, like mat. editor, and then jump back. the result is very large, wild triangles all over the screen. >> For this symptom, I usually offer the following advice.. It sounds like your 3DS.EXE got corrupted somehow. First, check your system for virus' that might've "touched" the program, and then delete your 3DS.EXE and reinstall it from the original master disks, making sure that nothing modifies the program in any way. If the problem continues after that, contact your dealer for a new set of disks. Have you contacted your dealer and have they gotten involved? Are you running smartdrv? jonas[adesk]

We aren't running smartdrive and we haven't contacted our dealer yet. This was and is my first stop for problems like this. Will try your suggestions straight away! Thanks, Chris
