#More on Parity Errors

I've been working on my big model again and have several more (apparrantly
bogus) Parity errors. Usually they occur when the full model is displayed on
the secong attempt to remder the scene. They also occur when I try to drop into
the new fast preview mode and, this evening, when I tried to do a save project
to save the camera paths that I had just set up. (and I couldn't get it to
display the camera path at all.)
Do any of these occurrences give anybody any hints about what the problem
might be? I've only noticed it on big models that take a lot of swap space when
they render – a 20 MB swap file after my 32 MB of ram fills up) and, I think,
only since I started using R4.
My system has as much memory as it will take (32Mb) and I've done some fairly
extensive memory diagnostics, showing nothing. (The reason that I think it is a
bogus message is that it shows "MEMORY PARITY ERROR AT ADDRESS ????" whenever
it stop. On real errors I've seen it does at least provide a real address in
the message.
Ideas?

Jonas: Thanks. If anybody has any ideas, please let me know. I'm in a bind
right now because my current CPU board is maxed out at 32 Mb and its hard to
argue for a new CPU card and 64 Mb of memory while we're talking about a $5B
budget cut and a 20% staff reduction! <g>

Chris, We have been plagued by memory parity errors when rendering large files.
We went through every part of the system to no avail. We finally realized that
the error occurs when the hard drive is constantly running. This is most
likely overheating the RAM. We installed cooling fans, but they were not
effective enough. We use a large square fan and sit it right in front of the
CPU with the front panels off. This works, we never get a parity error with
the fan running. It is kind of annoying with the fan blowing on you, but if
you are rendering you don't have to be in front of it anyway. Good luck, hope

Concerning parity errors, especially when warm…have you checked to see if the
connection metals are the same on the simms and the connector? If they're gold
on one and tin on the other, this can gradually lead to significant problems.
For instance, Intel's Premiere II, (Plato), P90 motherboard has tin memory
connectors, but many people are putting in gold connector simms; Intel
specifically says not to do this in the manual for this motherboard. For more

Thanks, I'll take another look at the cooling in my system. The thing that
makes me doubt that this is my problem is that if I hide a chunk of the scene
it will render just fine. If I unhide all of the geometry the system crashes on
the next render, and sometimes when I switch between the 3D modeler and the
keyframer.
