Your software sounds interesting.
I do have a SCSI Conner (nee Archive) Python DAT drive and I wonder if it would
work for me because I don't assign a drive letter to it, it just shows up when
I run the DAT software. I'm not sure if I could assign a drive letter to it.
And how does it compare to the TapeDisk software? And how much is it?

Alec,
No normally with any tape backup software you can not assign a drive letter to
it.
That's what makes the RENDER-T0-DAT software unique! You install a small TSR,
format your tape (if unformatted for RENDER-TO-DAT), then mount the drive.
That Simple!!
We tested the speed against ArcSolo on our server. We backed up 4gb with
ArcSolo and it took 4 hours. The same data was copied (yes I said copied, with
the DOS command "XCOPY") to the virtual drive and it only took 45 minutes. We
also have brought up random images on the drive to view them and have even
played FLC files directly from the DAT.
I need to know the exact model number of the conner drive, but I do believe it
is supportted. Fo opitmum performance though a HP1533 DAT drive is
reccommended.
The price of the software alone is $795, or with a HP1533 External DAT Drive it
is $1995.

No, $795 is not too much for an 8 gig hard drive but you are not selling a hard
drive — you are selling software which, I think, is comparable to TapeDisk
which sells for $250. I don't mean to be hostile but your price seems, to me,
to be astoundingly high.
I don't know where you get the "8 gig": my DAT drive's capacity is 4gig on one
tape. And, BTW, I can get a real 3 gig hard disk for about $950.

No offense Shaun but TAPEDISK is $295 and I've even called Jim at 10PM on
Saturday Night for tech. Support and he happily anwered!!
Yes he does work on weekends just like the rest of us mutants, also I might
add, just when most of us deciede to try out this type of software and also
want to get fancy!….
So far I can't see any difference between the two software packages, except
that Tapedisk preceeds yours by at least a year that I'm aware of. Also at
$795. I wouldn't expect a lot of folks beating a path to your door….perhaps
you might want to rethink your marketing strategy.

You may want to check out "Tapedisk" by Tapedisk Corporation 816 Meadow Hill
Drive, Menomonie, Wisconsin 54751.
It allready does exactyl what your "new" product does and by your description
it does it the same way.
I know nothing about "look and feel" law suites but I'd suggest you contact
them at 715-235-3388 and try to head off any problems before they start.
Tapedisk is Distributed Internationally and certainly was on the scene well
before your program.
I know about this because I happen to be a dealer for them and it is a Great
Product.
