Howdy, gang…
I know I've seen threads on this topic before, but I never paid much attention
to them before, since I wasn't suffering from this problem. Well, I am
now…bigtime. (I also reset the message date back to as far as Jan 1 '94), and
still didn't find any messages on this topic.
Anyway, can anyone tell what causes this…and better yet, what the cures are?
Most of the movie segments I'm working on now are in the vicinity of 5 minutes
or so in length. At the beginning, they're fine. Up through 2-3 minutes, it's
sorta tolerable. Beyond that, it starts looking like a bad kung-fu
movie…especially since the current project is product manager babble-on about
features and benefits. 🙂
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Radius folks should probably answer this, but since I'm on I'll try.
[Please no flaming-I'm just trying to help] I've followed this issue for a
long time because of my need to produce long projects. This is an area that
VVS has problems. (also 16bit audio on PPC Macs) There is a version of studio
player that supposedly fixes the problem that remains unreleased. I believe it
is due to the heavy investment of time they're making in their Telecast board
due out soon. The Telecast unit will have hardware locked audio/video and
16bit audio. No sync problems. The upgrade will cost you. Its likely that
sometime afterward the improved studioplayer will be available.
Having said that, I have seen many state they were able to A/V sync for 10min
with highly tuned setups. However, eventually they would have trouble. I've
seen Premiere blamed for this (more sync problems in 4 than 3), the
StudioPlayer, drives, bad karma etc. I ultimately went with a Media 100 system
for my company, which does not suffer from these issues. I still follow the
Radius system with interest, because in the future I would certainly add a VVS
if the need arose. I also just love knowing what comes out on the other guys
system. I do know that each component must be properly "tuned" with the others
to get the most out of the system. For now Premiere 4.01 matches well with QT 2
and MMT 2.01. Whether this would cure your problems, I'm not sure, but I
suspect you'll have to wait for the new Studio Player.
On the other hand a lot can be done with laying down video in 5 minute
segments.

No it won't…I'm not planning on making that big a jump. 🙂

Gee, maybe I could hold my breath, like I have for my Premiere upgrade. <g>

That's kind of what's really got me confused on this issue. It's something
entirely new. I'm just not sure why it's reared its ugly head. What'd I do?

I'm getting some pretty bad synch (1-2 seconds off) even at the end of 5
minutes.
