I just tried to join 2 animations – the first 3405 frames and the second 6150
frames – and was given an error message that there is a frame limit of 8192.
Is this a hard coded setting ? Can I change this ? Does anyone know *why* the
limit is 8192 frames ?…I'm sure there's a good reason for this – 8192 doesn't
seem like the kind of number that's reached arbitrarily <G> – I'm just looking
for some enlightenment. Most of the videos that I'll be making will be in the
5-7 minute range so I'm hoping that there's a "work-around". I was trying to
do the final composite thru Razor Pro and it seemed as though it would have put
all 9555 frames together for me, but it can back with a "drive full or needs to
be optimized" message; – It said nothing about frame limits ?! My immediate
work-around was to leave it split (at a convenient spot) and just lay it off to
tape from the PAR (with no sound). Anyway….any insights would be helpful.
P.S. In case you were thinking of suggesting it – I'm already looking at adding
another PAR drive !

There is a setting in the PAR.INI file to adjust total amount of frames, set
MAX_FRAMES=11000 or so. I think this was my largest file on the PAR so I don't
know if you can go any higher. Backup and delete any unnecessary files then
optimize the drive. Then use Razor Pro or do a Join in the PAR application.
Also with the new PAR 1.5 software you con do a destructive Join -there is a
setting in the PAR.INI for a destructive join setting-. The new MCI driver for
the PAR will allow you to access a SLAVE drive, this will allow you to use
Razor Pro to do your final output to the slave, its fast and works great!

What's a destructive join ?
New problem that you may be able to help with… Now that I've joined my two
ANI's into one 9555 frame ANI it plays back fine in the PAR, but doesn't play
back in RAZOR PRO. Razor Player acts as if it has loaded the file but when I
play – nothing happens?! I looked for a similar max-frame setting in RAZOR.INI
but found nothing that would stop me from playing it. And Razor player is
playing all my other ANIs.

Gary,
The 11000 frame number was set arbitrarily, it was the magic number that I
needed. Try a larger setting if you need it, I think it causes the program to
us more ram so if you have it you shouldn't have a problem.

What's a destructive join ? —
This is where PAR joins two or more files without saving the first segment for
a backup. The destructive join adds all segments to the existing file and uses
the first segment for the newly created file rather than creating a completely
separate file with a new name, the theory is that it takes less disk space to
create the join.
Your problem with the max. frames in Razor Pro is a new one for me, I think I
tested this in the earlier versions of RP but not with 1.0c. You might try some
tests and use the razor tool to see if you get any response. This might be a
MCI driver problem, to test this try playing this out of the Media Player from
Windows. Let me or Jamie know about this problem ASAP.

I hope you got my other message about the RAZOR PLAYER not playing
your long file.
But in case you didn't:
Check that you are using the latest version of the PAR MCI drivers
version 1.1, if not you will find that the RAZOR PRO version 1.0c
automatically installs the PAR MCI drivers into a subdirectory called
PAR_MCI in the RAZOR directory. From there you will have to add the
drivers to the DRIVERS section in the Control panels manually.
Also check that you only have one version of PARDRR.DLL on your
system. The version you should have is version 1.06 dated 2/10/95.

Got both of your messages. Let me start by saying that I've got things working
as they should be <BG>. As it turmed out it *was* the MCI driver. However, I
feel that I should debrief you on how I got there.

I don't know if mine was an isolated case – but, installing RP ver. 1.0c **did
not** create a subdirectory called PAR_MCI. I checked the INSTALL.LST file and
saw that it probably should have done it, but…. Anyway, since I copied the
update (raz.zip) from the BBS into a tmp directory, unzipped it, and installed
it from this tmp directory (into c:\RAZOR) – I had some trouble, at first,
finding the drivers. For some reason neither the drivers nor its directory
were copied over. So I just manually copied over the files (MCIPAR.DRV,
OEMSETUP.INF, MCIPAR.INI, & MCIPA2.TSK) to the \RAZOR directory and manually
updated the driver thru Windows Control Panel. Now my 9555 frame ANI will play
!!! Should I create a PAR_MCI subdirectory or is it a dead issue at this
point??
Again, I don't know if this is an isolated case or an issue that others may
come accross as well – but thought that you might want to know ??!
